lol its only two weeks into the new year.

Seriously, Sony will likely be 5th for the year again. The only films that i could see being big hits for them would be Venom or Spiderman animated film.

^^^ RO's legs off the 4-day weekend give 30.28/16.81*15.38+595.56 = 623.26 to TLJ

I'm just tracking it based on Rogue One's daily gross. It earned 90% of Rogue One's 3-day weekend total. If that continues, it will make another $30.26 million and finish at $622.6 million.

Or - I know it’s crazy - but it could be because most (like 99% of) people have zero interest in seeing a gay movie with pretentious dialogue and absolutely no interest at all for almost anyone. The movie just sucked. Even if it wasn’t gay, it would just be a bad Nicholas Sparks novel made into a movie, that’s how it felt. It’s not like there’s any story to propel the film. It was absolutely godawful, one of the most unwatchable movies I can imagine. They won’t convince anyone outside of a major metro area to see that and even then good luck!

Forecasting with the updated estimates:

The Post:

Remainder of this week: 4.4M (32.3M Total)

Jan 19: 11.6M (5.2M weekdays, 49.1M Total)

Jan 26: 10.5M (4.3M weekdays, 63.9M Total)

Feb 2: 7.8M (2.7M weekdays, 74.4M Total)

Feb 9: 5.2M (2.3M weekdays, 81.9M Total)

Feb 16: 4.9M (2.7M weekdays, 89.5M Total)

Feb 23: 3.5M (1.5M weekdays, 94.5M Total)

Mar 2: 3.2M (1.2M weekdays, 98.9M Total)

Mar 9: 2.3M (700k weekdays, 101.9M Total)

Final Total: 104M

The Commuter:

Remainder of this week: 2.3M (18.7M Total)

Jan 19: 5.5M (2M weekdays, 26.4M Total)

Jan 26: 3.2M (1.2M weekdays, 30.8M Total)

Feb 2: 1.5M (400k weekdays, 32.7M Total)

Final Total: 35M (2.13x from 4 day/2.55x from 3 day)

Thinking The Post could go a bit higher then that. If my theater is any indication (admittedly not much to go on), then a 4X+ multiplier would not surprise me.

Seems like Greatest Showman can go over $130m. Awesome recovery after a really weak opening. Jumanji's performance is amazing too. I wonder how high it can go.

I think Jumanji has the possibility to hit 400m at this point. Crazy! Sky's the limit for it.

Coco will ease thorough 200 next weekend without needing any push or getting ..ahem...entangled in mid-190s

Jan 5–7 9 $5,382,651 -27.9% 1,894 -210 $2,842 $191,925,612 7
Jan 12–14 13 $3,365,000
(Estimate)
-37.5% 1,362 -532 $2,471 $196,908,440
(Estimate)
8
Jan 12–15 13 $4,673,000
(Estimate)
-13.2% 1,362 -532 $3,431 $198,216,440
(Estimate)

Should go over Ratatouille and if Disney gives it the theater bump (usually 1000+ theaters) it gives to all animations towards the end, then 210 could happen. It did well over the 3-day too considering Paddington2 was direct comp.

It's impressive how much Liam Neeson and the Collet Serra director play each other nicely. They seem to be great partners and their movies are always fun and interesting.

The Neeson / Collet Serra Universe is great:

1) Unknown: 136 million worldwide // DVD Sales: 16 million

2) Non-Stop: 222 million worldwide // DVD Sales: 19 million

3) Run All Night: 71 million worldwide // DVD Sales: 7 million  ( that one was tough, R rated and the release date didn't help )

So, in 3 Collet Serra movies, they got 429 million worldwide. That seems good.

Nothing will be like Taken trilogy, though. I can't believe how much money they got.

First one got 226 million, Second got 337 million and the last one got 327 million. The trilogy got 930 million worldwide, lol. No wonder Neeson keeps making these movies.

The Avengers made an ass ton of money.

Before 2015 it was the 3rd biggest movie DOM in history.

So getting close or past it isn't that bad...it's unprecedented for a direct sequel.

The second biggest direct sequel is TDK with 534 m DOM.

3rd is Finding Dory with 486 m.

Not exactly unprecendented if The Dark Knight with no 3D adjusts to far more with The Last Jedi's average ticket price than The Last Jedi itself has made.

The Dark Knight sold 74.3m tickets using the average ticket price of 2008. The Last Jedi will probably sell between 60m and 65m ticket by the end of its run.
