I Tonya not breaking out is really surprising.

Dudebros who loved Margot in Wolf of Wall Street and Suicide Squad were the target demo for the "Goodfellas of ice-skating" obviously.

Tonya and CMBYN got screwed by winning absolutely no televised award. general public knows by now that the Oscar race isn't about them so they go watch what's expected to win. That's the problem with also-runs in awards season. Once it's clear the movie and actors aren't in it to win it, they get dropped, unless a movie's a major crowd pleaser like Hidden Figures which would have done well w/o nominations anyway.

Critics awards are good for limited release in coastal cities but wide release requires winning something that GA has actually heard of.

oscar bump this year has been lackluster.....without regular oscar like hidden figure, the revenant, la la land, or american sniper.....lowest telecast rating is incoming!!

17% drop for TGS during Superbowl weekend . Could drop ~10% next weekend to compensate for this weekend's big drop.

THE POST will make around 10m more than BOS's 72m. 80m+ is a solid result as such but expected much more due the pedigree of the trio and the timely subject. Interestingly TGS will beat it by >100% (170m for TGS if not more : Adding 5x the weekend more takes it to 175m).

Maybe 20 years ago. It is what you would expect from Spielberg these days.

He had LINCOLN not that far back. Not that THE POST should have emulated it but I thought doubling SPOTLIGHT's dom (45M) would not be a problem at all even without a Best Pic win. Makes me appreciate BOS's legs more (15/72).

Serious question: does Jumanji have a shot at making 1 billion WW?

Only if J2 breaks out big in Japan. J2 will release there on April 6. So it's going to be a long wait anyway to come to a conclusion.

J2 could end up with 397.2 million if it follows NATM's legs after raking in 11 million in it's 7th weekend. On the international front, J2 collected 18.67 million in the last weekend. The OS gross could end up at 512.02 million assuming it does 1.5 times last weekend. World-wide total becomes [397.2+512.02]=909.2 million. So even in a WoM dependent market like Japan, J2 will have to come out all guns blazing right from the OW to have any chance at 1B WW. I'm not sure if J2 will have that kind of incredible WoM or a gigantic OW so as to break the 90 million+ barrier in Japan. But Japan pushed 'IT' to 700 million+ WW so there's still a glimmer of hope that they'll embrace J2 and make it go past 1B WW.

Tonya keeps inexplicably winning Supporting Actress, so I don't buy this argument
