The franchise used to be the giant that towered over all giants. Now its seen as a giant among giants, and a blip in their overall box office reputation is naturally seen as something to discuss.

Looking a bit like a giant space-dwarf right about now.

Okay okay, I get. I haven't been keeping track of box office or tracking, didn't know the budget was that high. I just know the forum likes to turn discussions into "lol haha lol venom head emoji haha JJ head emoji lol", so I was curious on why exactly it was seen as so bad. I see now, though I still don't see why it really matters in the grand scheme.

Not like this is some original movie that we were hoping could bud into a new franchise, it's still yet another Star Wars. I'm not hurting for Disney and they're still gonna pump out a billion SW movies. If anything it's fresh air. SW and Marvel dominance is diluting the fun of the chart.

There was at least some thinking that a successfull Solo film could lead to more sequels.

Which is

probably

not gonna happen....

If it’s already in production, nah they won’t.

But will they actually go forward with a Jabba the Hutt or Boba Fett movie in reality?  Not positive about that unless they adjust their budgets accordingly

Oscar Isaac would have been great casting as Boba Fett. They really underused him as Poe.

Dude, who cares. It's natural that it drops considering Solo took premium screens away, and it has the 4-day weekend to cushion its hold either way. And it's still a Wonder Woman-sized hit compared to that movie

EDIT: Actually, nevermind, a 65-70% drop on Memorial Day is fucking terrible. Still, it's gonna make 300M (it'll be north of 200M on its 2nd weekend with a 40+ 3-day, I doubt it can't muster another 100M after that), and Solo is not, on a 110M budget vs. 250+, so which is the real disaster here?

I saw a few mentions in the International thread that ppl are thinking Nutcracker might not get an official release given the Freeman stuff. Is that really a possibility? I mean yea, Disney doesn't want to tarnish their brand, but it really doesn't look like Freeman has a huge role or anything. If they really want to they could easily re-cast and re-shoot.

Plus it looks like they already put a lot of money into the movie. And could earn a lot of money back as well. Wouldn't be surprised with a 175DOM, 275OS run

Taking the high end of 37M from Disney, we can make the optimistic projection

14

23

29.5 (+30%)

28M (-6%)

25M (-10%)

96.5M/111.5M

that ends up at 119.5 4-day though i think 17-18% mon drop is a given, so 117.5 keeping the rest as optimistic.

01. There will be a Panda Bear movie sometime released in China and it will make 100M+ there.
02. Solo: A SW Story will make less than what Rogue One did in its first 10 Days (286M)

03. JW: Fallen Kingdom will make more than Infinity War both DOM and OS
04. Aquaman will make 100M more DOM than JL (327M)
05. Deadpool 2 will gross more than 400M
06. Venom will outgross TASM2 DOM (202M+)
07. Wreck-It Ralph 2 will make 300M+ DOM
08. The Grinch will make LESS than 200M DOM
09. The Predator will gross more than 200M DOM
10. The Meg will make 200M+ in China.

Now you all can call me a lunatic.

While there are some failures in this (these were bold predictions for 2018 movies), i nailed one i think

In a way we’re seeing this with Solo too.  It’s detached and the least Star Warsy of the movies.  I could see this flopping but people being willing to go see Episode 9 in two years.  They better come up with an invigorating marketing campaign though for that one.

Well 18 months with no SW will help at least. Longest hiatus since ROTS!

From the lukewarm reception that footage from Nutcracker got at cannes even before the Freeman scandle broke, I got a feeling Disney is not going to put another dime into this film,

And I think that of all the remaining films on the Disney release roster for 2018, this is easily the most likely to bomb. Just does not look very good even without the Freeman situation.

Freeman's role is not big but is central to the story...as anybody familiar with "THe Nutcraker" ballet can tell you.

I’m hoping they stick to the D&D and Johnson trilogy after that to kind of move past the nostalgia based movies and start expanding the universe.

I think there’s only so far you can take these nostalgia trip films (even the well-done ones)
