The word masterpiece gets thrown around a lot, but I can’t justify calling a movie where Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski sing Dancing Queen anything less than one

Just wait until Cher sings Fernando. 1B WW LOCKED.

If Solo follows DOFP from here, it ends at 210M. It has been holding slightly worse than DOFP to date, so it will be interesting to see the run for sure.

Incredibles 2 is gonna give it a hell of a boost in 2 weeks tho.

Black Panther at $699.129m DOM ... can Disney squeeze another $870k out of it?

Easy peasy! Disney can and will squeeze $1M+ out of it! Heck, they were able to squeeze more than $1M out of AWIT with its expansion!

Speaking of Equalizer II, I noticed that Box Office is predicting "unwanted sequel syndrome" to strike it. Doesn't sound far-fetched, especially when it's been almost four years since the first and it's opening between Skyscraper and Mission: Impossible, both of which have more going for them.

OTOH it's still Denzel

Ant Man 2 will easely beat the laughable $657.9 million Justice league made.

I wonder about "Marvel fatigue" with Ant Man. I mean, yes, Deadpool 2 is making a ton of money and it came out just three weeks after the Avengers tidal wave. But there has to be a point of diminishing returns with these, right? I mean they couldn't release a Marvel film every day and each of then still score big, right?

Disney faces this possible problem not only because of their own crowded Marvel schedule, but also because they can't control when other studios, like FOX** and SONY, that own Marvel properties are going to release Marvel-branded films too.

I know that just in the past 7 months, we've had FOUR Marvel-brand films released and all have been blockbusters. But it can't just go on like this forever, can it? SOLO warning in effect for this one?

** At least not until, or if, the FOX sale goes through.

He's coming off of by far his lowest-grossing film in decades, so clearly even he isn't invincible from a miss every now and then. Plus fwiw his previous summer releases (The Manchurian Candidate, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, 2 Guns) were all underperformers despite having ample starpower alongside him (Streep, Travolta back when he was still a marquee name, Wahlberg) so who knows.

Damn IW's late holds are insane. Any chance it legs it out past TFA WW? :ohmygod:

Is 103-104 away from TFA.  If it adds 10.4 (current weekend) * 3.6 = 37.4 more dom (680+ total), then needs 67 odd more os after a 24.3 weekend to match TFA.

With JW2 soon and world cup seems tough as I went optimistic on dom. could get an extension in china.

That was a non mainstream indie even though Sony released it.  It did not have the kind of marketing for a saturation release even if it eventually expanded to 1400 theaters.

Only 2 Guns of those listed came out in this decade and even that opened to $27m, 5 years ago. For his wide releases he's been remarkably consistent in his openers and legs.

11/17/17 Roman J. Israel, Esq. Sony $11,962,778 1,669 $61,999 4 39
12/16/16 Fences Par. $57,682,904 2,368 $129,462 4 22
9/23/16 The Magnificent Seven (2016) Sony $93,432,655 3,696 $34,703,397 3,674 8
9/26/14 The Equalizer Sony $101,530,738 3,236 $34,137,828 3,236 4
8/2/13 2 Guns Uni. $75,612,460 3,028 $27,059,130 3,025 15
