Redstone's obviously selling Paramount and that's been the plan for few months now so they don't care anymore.

It's the same reason why Mickey 17 is being dumped in January. These expensive duds aren't going to be the current regimes' problem soon enough.

That's sad. Why would they buy WB to sell it so soon?

It's from a major trade publication, how is it unreliable

That's still no guarantee but okay, i missed the part where it says "The Hollywood Reporter"...

Something doesn't line up, will have to wait for more details on this production.

They said only 10m extra was bc of strikes and they only shot for 49 days which is shorter than usual but efficient because that's what old Ridley is like. He's not really known for going over budget as of late?

Unless he went screw it and started adding in tons of crazy stuff lol

He probably went over budget on Robin Hood. The studio had too much faith in it and probably expected another Gladiator, therefore allowed Ridley to go crazy on it, so he built a city, castle and they all took massive paychecks.

He spent a forturn on those ships in the landing scenes alone.

I loved that Ridley was having a lot of fun with that aspect; all the ships are medieval versions of World War 2 landing craft; on some military history pages I frequent there were jokes about LSK...Landing SHip Knight..(one of the ships was based on the WW2 LST....Landing SHip Tank) but it was an expensive joke.

How does a budget inflate so much to the point where it’s nearly double what was intended?

Hell, costing double is nothing. The 1963 Cleopatra ended up costing  more then three times the original budget; budget was 12 million..which was HUGE in the early 60's and ended up with a price tag of 42 Million. Scott is a piker compared to that.

And, yes, I supsect that Paramount might be worried they have another Cleo on their hands.

The original had a fairly turbulent production also. The script was never finished and they were making it up as they went.  Crowe and Scott have been  pretty open about that. One of the stars Oliver Reed died halfway through production so they had to use CG and body doubles to finish his scenes. And yet it still only cost 103 million in 99/2000 dollars which would probably be about 200 or so today. And it became a best picture winning classic.

Yeh these budgets are getting out of hand, and they’re crippling the films chances. Look at MI7 and Indiana Jones just last year.

If it’s $315m, this could be the biggest financial bomb of the year. Hopefully it isn’t true.

Even if this movie was as good as Gladiator, it would still be a beautiful box office disaster. Ridley Scott is not gonna get any big budget movie after this. It is the end for the old man.

He already has The Bee Gees film and another film called Bomb. And he’ll get something else too. For whatever reason studios will always trip over themselves to give this man money.

Are you kidding me, he'll easily get another big budget movie after this, he's invincible at this point.
