Weekend Thread 11/16 - 11/18 - Grindelwald $25.7M Friday, Instant Family at $4.5M Friday

Recommended Posts

Wasn't last weekend's Sunday inflated by the proxy of a holiday Monday? Plus a myriad of new releases flooding theaters, the whole blizz apocalypse in the West Coast, and with next week being Thanksgiving I guess people might wanna save up. Every holdover (except The Grinch) dropping big time makes sense to me for those reasons.

Harry Potter is so boring to me that it's difficult for me to even discuss it's boring numbers that much. I'll just say that it's not going to be the franchise WB wants it to be. If they can start lowering the budgets and keep their expectations in check, things should turn out okay.

Last Sunday had slightly muted drops.  ASIB was 31.3% opposed to the week before with 38%.  That wouldn't account for an overall  48% drop this weekend

I updated my original post adding other reasons why movies would drop worse than usual this weekend.

Veteran's Day was actually on Sunday this year but yeah.

From what I know, if there's a Sunday holiday in America, Monday is officially assigned for observation and leave, so it might've as well been a holiday. I had the idea that VD was Monday itself tbh, with Nutcracker's Monday hold throwing me for a loop at the time.

I'm not the best at extrapolating numbers, but 2012 had the same calendar configuration, and its drops are nowhere near as bad-looking as what it seems like these will be at. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2012&wknd=46&p=.htm

Although to be fair, there was only one wide opener that weekend, while we have three 2,800+ openers this weekend.

Well, maybe this is an anomaly weekend. I think that the abundance of new movies coming out, plus the West Coast crippled by weather might've had a say in all of this.
