Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore | April 15, 2022 | Final Trailer on Page 75

Recommended Posts

While I think TSoD ended on a satisfying enough note, I agree there is definitely appetite still for an epic battle in the finale, but definitely NOT two films. If done right with a focus on creating a big spectacle for the wizard/muggle war (with the possible inclusion of some of the beasts introduced throughout the films so far) it would really end the series on a high note.

Also if you do the ending the story forever stays on HBO MAX and other platforms to be rewatched and discovered by new audience, There are movies that were in a way re-evaluated over time by big enough portion of the fandom like Star War PT, The Amazing Spider-Man, Snyder's DC movies...

But if you don't have the ending that can't happen. Making 5 movies is too risky IMO.

Thinking about it...Hagrid might be the only Potter character that would make sense for him to return...as an assistant/helper to Newt and play a small but pivotal role in unleashing the beasts in the final battle.

They could really pull all the stops for the final film...

I would also add that it should without doubt be the best duel in the entire Wizarding World catalogue. The bar was set high with the Dumbledore vs Voldemort duel back in 2007 to the point that nothing has exceeded it so far, but it's still inexcusable if they don't top it over 15 years later with the development of CGI and Yates' experience of working on these movies since then.

If the battle in Secrets was intentionally made as only a taste of the final battle, then I think they're gonna make it beyond epic.

Their final battle besides having to be thrilling...should also be emotional.

Rewatching the first 2 beasts films for the first time since theaters in prep for this weekend. Honestly, the first was pretty enjoyable. I remember the second being pretty bad, but I’m only 20 minutes in so far and it hasn’t gotten bad quite yet.

I also rewatched the first two entries this week. When I watched them in theatres I really lenjoyed  "And Where to find Them" despite thinking it had several flaws (the biggest one bieng that it felt like two completly differnt movies crammed into one), and was really dissapointed with the mess that "Crimes of Grindelwald" was.

I ended up liking AWtFT sligthly more this time. The pacing was better than what I remembered and it didn't feel as two completly movies this time. Without the Grindelwald reveal, I think it works well as a stand alone and auto-conclusive adventure.

Just like you, I was enjoying the first 15-ish minutes of CoG, and I said to myself "Huh, this is not bad, maybe I was too harsh on my initial viewing". Then the movie went downhill pretty quickly.
There's like... 25 characters in this and only a handful of them move the plot forward.
The movie is called Crimes of Grindelwald and yet he's one of the characters with the least amount of screentime. Also, we hear a lot about Grindelwald evilness, but we only get to see him and his army killing like 5 people and most of the deaths are off-screen, so it's hard to feel any sense of menace.
Aside for the first 15 minutes, I also liked the scenes with Dumbledore and a couple of the ones with Newt, so at least that prevents me of saying it was a total waste of time.

I'll be watching Secrets of Dumbledore either tomorrow or on Saturday. Hopefully it's more like AWtFT than CoG.

I think it is impossible to end story about Dumbledore and Grindelwald without Deathly hallows playing an important part in the story, And we know where the cloak is.

Have the Deathly Hallows be shown as a flashback to their relationship and how it pushed both of them to extremism...but it should not be a central focus by any means.

They should also include some beasts in the duel as suggested by someone else. An excellent opportunity to retroactively adapt the moment from the Order of the Phoenix book when Fawkes saves Dumbledore from the killing curse, which was not included in that movie, but should be relevant here.

I watched the movie today, I loved it. The tragic relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald is well explored, Jude Law and Mads Mikkelsen are great. I felt that this time the fantastic beasts merged organically into the plot. The technical aspects were great, expecting more BAFTA nominations. Jessica Williams was great too, I loved her interactions with Jacob. The only nitpicking would be Yusuf Kama, the character seems aimless. For me the ending closes some aspects, but clearly it's not really the end of this story. Hoping that at least one final movie gets greenlit.

Mads-Mikkelsen-in-Fantastic-Beasts-and-T

It's amazing how Mikkelsen has been universally praised as a hugely superior Grindelwald. I could not buy Jude Law's Dumbledore falling for Depp's Grindlewald.

Many critics keep pointing how the scene of them in the restaurant would not have worked nearly as well if Depp stayed.

If they decide to do a fourth and maybe a fifth movie then absolutely need to reduce the amount of main characters. The first movie worked because the main characters stuck together and there was only four of them, these last two movies increased the amount of characters we had to follow and had them all running around separately instead of as a unit.

The vast majority of ensemble movies have the main characters roughly in the same area all on one main mission. The Oceans movies did pretty well in that regard as we knew all the characters were just robbing Casinos, the plots weren't complicated. The more characters there are in a story the more you need to tighten the hell out of the plot. There should be no questions as to what characters are doing, why they're doing it, and when they're getting it done.

It seems that Kloves barely managed to string together a cohesive story for this movie, but its evident with these last two movies that Rowling has issues killing her darlings, issues she needs to address or somebody needs to force her to address. Personally I don't think she should be involved in the script writing process at all. If she were anybody else they would've been kicked her off screenwriting duties. Regardless, something's gotta change.

52% critics on RT. 5.60 average.

83% verified RT audience average. 4.2 average. 74% all audience with 3.8 average.

84% google user rating.

3.0 on Letterboxd.

IMDB is flawed system now but 6.6 with 15k votes.

These are not promising starts for opening night since it's mostly fan voting
