To tell the truth, I don’t particularly care for Waititi’s brand of comedy, and the man himself also comes across as just a tad obnoxious. I do think it’s funny, though, that he’s become such a staple of the Walt Disney Company, despite his risqué humor and eccentric real life behavior.

I'm not sure what you're referencing but there is nothing particularly risque about his humor.  Jojo Rabbit was only controversial cause of the subject matter but in the same way Life is Beautiful was cause some people will just never think its okay to do a non-grim dark take on that subject. The only R rated film he's made is WWDITS and not cause it's trying to be edgy or anything, it's just a vampire movie so there's gory bits. Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople are more or less wholesome dramedies. His real life behavior is just like any other 40 something man in Hollywood who got divorced lol he just happened to get papped after a wild night I guess.

I distinctly recall a line about orgies in Thor: Ragnarok. Meanwhile, the trailer for this movie ends with Thor being butt-naked. That’s fairly risqué for a Disney movie.

I mean I don't think that's much worse than like what Tony Stark does in the Iron Man movies or the GOTG joke about Starlord's ship if you shined a blacklight.

The first two Iron Man movies were made before Disney bought Marvel. As for GotG, James Gunn is also pretty fond of raunchy humor. Even his Scooby Doo movies are full of them.

I mean I don't think Disney cares so long as it's PG13.  I think the first POTC might be edgier than anything Marvel has put out.

Also butts are allowed even in PG films like Emma (2020) had butts and was rated PG lol

But isn't that COOL???  It's time for the MCU to expand their horizons a bit.  The real problem is that the American audience has a Disney groupthink problem.  If Disney really wasn't OK with any of this stuff...it wouldn't be in the trailer...or the movie.

The film is great. Even better than Ragnarok, for me. But, and i could be completely wrong, i think that one will also be divisive.

The profane (and hilarious) use of gods, the representation LGBT, even being small, and some "scary" scenes with Gorr involving children should be enough to "shocking" the american audience.

But I'm okay if that's the price to have a blockbuster that is 100% Taika. Can't wait to see it again.

That started to happen after he signed up for L&T and there are blinds about that Disney is not happy with it. Not really his affairs but demand to give him and his business escorts a private jet which Disney refused to do - bacially, do whoever and as many as you want, just don't ask us to foot the bill.

I still remember when Tessa had to cut her hair for Sorry to Bother You and they asked Taika if that was OK cause she would have to wear a $20k wig for Ragnarok reshoots and he was like whatever it’s not my money lmao

I 100% agree.  There is zero to cut into its grosses or take it off screen.  I also think DC Super Pets overperforms as well.

For this reason, I think that if Love and Thunder can manage a DS2 level opening (or even 200m+), 500m DOM could definitely be on the cards

I've been hearing a lot of sentiment recently at this movie's going to do o/u Ragnarok adjusted for inflation, but personally I believe that's bunk. As Legion said, this movie is tracking for high 20s preview, and given that this is almost certainly going to be a crowd pleaser, I would estimate 6.5x IM for 170-190m opening, which isn't even all that impressive as if this was 2017 that would be about 140-150m, only a slight increase from Ragnarok's OW. But more importantly, social media tracking for this movie has put it much higher, to be expected, given that the character has had a major role in two $2B hits since then, not to mention this movie is coming off the crowd pleaser that was Ragnarok, whereas Ragnarok was coming off The Dark World.

            My prediction (for now):

            180m OW (28m x 6.5)

            470-520m DOM (2.7-2.9x multi)

:rofl::worthy: Unironically unfathomably based!

Agreed that reviews will be more like Ragnarok than GOTG 2. More accessible, no daddies who are planets.

I think the whole point of the gods being a joke is to reinforce Gorr's motivation isn't it?

Who is intently watching the Greek market to see if there is a negative reaction to depiction of particular gods or anger over Russell Crowe being Zeus instead of Neeson or Olivier?

Russell Crowe Zeus feels more accurate to the Zeus who turned himself into animals to have sex with mortal women all the time.
