For years, the Globes went without a host and it was absolutely fine. I miss the days of the cheesy musical remix intros: There was one for "Don't Cha" that isn't online but get a taste of some of the lyrics: http://gawker.com/149141/behind-the-golden-globes-music-the-ggs-dont-cha LMAO these are still the greatest. lorddemaxus
Honestly, Gervais's Golden Globes stuff is probably the funniest thing he has done since The Office. I really dont mind it. Also, was disappointed with Andy Samberg as the co-host last year. He was so much better when he hosted the Indie Spirit Awards. nghtvsn
I'm so glad they are having a host and that it's Gervais. I can't stand the host-less shows. It's just stupid to not have someone presiding over it and opening it up and keeping it entertaining otherwise...what's the point of it being on tv?

This year's host-less Oscars (even if it was done more out of a sense of " we give up") was arguably the most entertaining ceremony that particular awards show has been in years. You trim a lot of fat that way.

You trim a lot of fat that way. I don't even remember it. That's how non-entertaining it was. Apparently ratings were up 10% and stopped a downturn but the overall ratings are still unexciting. Cutting the host though to me is not the problem. Assuming there is an actual problem anyway to be solved.

It baffles me how people think having Ricky is a bad thing. He made the shows funny and memorable

filmlover
Adam Sandler/Uncut Gems is going Drama. I guess Sandler's not getting nominated now considering that category seems fairly stacked. Don't know who takes his place in Comedy/Musical though. Maybe Shia for The Peanut Butter Falcon? I doubt they nominate the kid from Jojo Rabbit (they tend to nominate young actors later as an IOU).

I think the nominee from Peanut Butter Falcon would be (and probably should be) Zack Gottsagen; he's the heart and soul of the film. Daniel Craig has received strong notices from Knives Out, too. So the category would become: Daniel Craig, Knives Out Leonardo DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood Taron Edgerton, Rocketman Zack Gottsagen, The Peanut Butter Falcon Eddie Murphy, Dolemite Is My Name This is definitely the prediction I'm going with... Shia's got the better chance since he has the comeback year narrative going for him between this and Honey Boy imo.

RealLyre
so apparently Portrait of a Lady on Fire is eligible for the globes (despite not being submitted for the Oscars) so I'll put it in my predictions. also Golden Globes nominations are this Monday at 5 AM ET. I'm not sure, it's a stacked category. We got: Antonio Banderas Robert De Niro Adam Driver Joaquin Phoenix Jonathan Pryce All looking like sure things, plus possible spoilers in Christian Bale (afterglow nomination following a win last year), Robert Pattinson (on the verge of having a big moment in the industry), and Paul Walter Hauser (actor whose stock is on the rise in a well-reviewed Eastwood movie opening at the right time). It's possible, but it's gonna be a battle.

I dunno, I've actually seen Pattinson's name being thrown around by some of the trade predictions (such as Variety) as a potential dark horse. He's about to have a big moment with Tenet and Batman in the pipeline and one should probably never underestimate the HFPA's desire to have as many stars attend the ceremony. But yeah, of all these guys he's easily last place in terms of likelihood of getting nominated.

I think no one in the GG actually see the movie before they cast the vote, they must have been like "Adam Sandler is in it, it must a be comedy then!". until they seen the film only realise they made a mistake.
