This film seems to be rehashing societal themes from the pre-Covid world. Society has a different psyche these days.

It really doesn’t lol. Joker would’ve probably resonated with people today as much as it did in 2019.

How big of a draw is Gaga, really? She’s a decade past peak popularity. A Star Is Born was 6 years ago, her last album was 4 years ago, and it’s not like she made House of Gucci a hit, and she was the top-billed star.

The first single from her new album (coming next year) drops next month around the time this opens (but seems entirely unrelated to this movie). As for her presence here, I guess there's the question of whether her stans are even excited for this. House of Gucci at least promised her being on screen for almost the entirety of a 2.5 hour movie, but the enthusiasm tends to be a different story when their fave is clearly nothing more than a featured player for marketing purposes. The fact early reviews are calling her "wasted" in this seem unlikely to do it any favors either.

seems to have stabilized?

an 80%ish or more score would have had me saying $150m, but I cant see how this drops below $100m ow

She literally has the biggest song on earth right now.

IGN gave this a 5.

If they give it lower then a 7 that's a red flag for how the nerds will react

Ehhh, in this particular case it doesn't mean anything, this reviewer is a snob if you look at his other reviews, he usually dislikes mainstream stuff and much more into arthouse and indie. I remember IGN audience raged about his reviews on other comic book stuff because he trashed all of them, no idea why IGN hired the guy who's not into content of their target audience.

Gaga has 2 movies under her belt so far and both of them were hits. Yes, even HoG, given how much it made especially under the circumstances.

You mean two hit films. The others werent so great.

it performed poorly at the box office and was received poorly by both audiences and critics

Pop stars sell (in some kinda of way actors too or Brad Pitt and tom Hans shouldn't have flops but they have them) the right projects for them.

A star is Born is a project made for a kinda of performer like lady Gaga. At some point apparently Eastwood was attached to the project with Di Caprio and Beyoncé to star. And Adele too.

I don't know how far or less but they both have the star Power to sell a project like that as Gaga did and were right for the kinda of role.

Exactly like Whitney Houston sold a romantic drama about a Singer etc . Etc . But other movies weren't definitely that big.

Joker as musical and as a movie  with a kinda of extravanga style characters seems a perfect project She can sells.

Ariana grande wouldn't sell a movie like this but feels right for Wicked. Taylor Swift wouldn't sell a movie like this but probably would be good for a musical movie about a typically Singer songwriter artist ala Carole king etc..

different kinda of performers.
