92nd Academy Awards Discussion Thread | PARASITE WINS BITCHESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS #BONGHIVE

Recommended Posts

I guess I have my final predictions?

Spoiler

Picture: 1917 (though I really, really, really want that Parasite upset to happen, and it's enough of a possibility that I almost want to say screw it and go No Guts No Glory in predicting it)

Director: Sam Mendes - 1917

Actress: Renee Zellweger - Judy

Actor: Joaquin Phoenix - Joker

Supporting Actress: Laura Dern - Marriage Story

Supporting Actor: Brad Pitt - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Adapted Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit (I really thought the stir around the directing snub for Gerwig would propel Little Women here, but it looks like Jojo's taking this one)

Original Screenplay: Parasite

Animated Feature: Toy Story 4 (no idea in this category, so I'm banking on Pixar's track record to prevail)

Cinematography: 1917

Costume Design: Little Women

Film Editing: Ford v. Ferrari (though a win for Parasite would not surprise me, and it could portend a Picture win; we'll see)

International Feature: Parasite (duh)

Makeup & Hairstyling: Bombshell

Original Score: Joker

Original Song: "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" - Rocketman

Production Design: 1917 (feeling shaky about this one - I'm banking on a near-sweep for 1917 that I don't feel all that confident in)

Sound Editing: 1917

Sound Mixing: 1917 (I suppose they could split this category and give one to Ford v. Ferrari, but doubling down is typically the right call for predictions unless there's a clear frontrunner in Mixing that isn't nominated in Editing - see: Les Miserables in 2012)

Visual Effects: 1917 (just because of its status as Best Picture frontrunner - this feels like the most wide-open year for the category since the surprise Ex Machina win)

C'mon Parasite.

Will be interesting if this year's hostless Oscars works as well as last year dis.

Honestly after last year there's really no need for a host for these ever again. Keeps things moving along quickly without padding like:

i think the ratings are going down again despite big movies getting nominated this year. because everything's dropping in ratings these days and last year there was a curiosity to how they were gonna do it without a host.

Clearly needed to be on Disney+ to get a big audience.

Does anyone know the order of the awards? is the Supporting Actor soon after the show starts?

Usually one of the Supporting categories is the first award. This year's it's likely gonna be Actress so they can save Pitt's star moment for later in the ceremony.

Will any speech this year be as rough to watch as this one last year:

At that moment the producers of the telecast were going, "See? That's why we wanted to cut the tech categories from TV!" That was awkward. But the other tech winners were fine with their speeches.

Might as well begin sharing red carpet pics to kill time. And it looks one of our first arrivals are...George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman!

George MacKay and Dean Charles...

It's going to be a long evening for them even if 1917 wins big, the show doesn't start for hours.
