$185 is actually quite low for 2022 tentpole film. TDKR was $250m ten years ago.

that was the blockbuster finale to a highly successful franchise with TDK being the most successful - critically acclaimed, highest grossing superhero film ever(at that time 2011). this is the first film of an entirely new franchise so $185m is fair, also this film is more of a detective/noir film heavy on dialogue, and TDKR was a straight action film- had several explosive set pieces for a finale. Also they had to pay the stars more - Bale, Hardy, Hathaway and Levitt, Freeman, michael caine & cotillard were at the very top ensemble possible, this film doesnt have any big name stars or a big ensemble to that extent. Lead pattinson is still relatively young, inexpensive and been in a lot of indie films, lead villain isnt an expensive to hire actor- paul dano, lead actress zoe kravitz's first lead actress blockbuster role(she was a minor support in mad max previously). colin farrell has a minor role apparently.
