Just rewatched Ready Player One and the movie deserves more credit, at least on a technical level. Spielberg experiments more with a virtual environment than any film since Avatar combined.

I watched Jurassic Park in the cinema a couple of weeks ago. The "Welcome to Jurassic Park" scene is so beautiful. Honestly like top 10 film scenes ever.

 

Raiders will obviously win this list but will be interesting to see how high up people rank some of the other stuff.

Ready Player One is impressive technically, but it's flaws as far are writing and plot drag it down.

War Horse - Another late Spielberg film that I think gets too much hate from the internet. Rare to see films today so unbashedly uncynical. Somewhat weak act one though.

War Horse made me bawl like a baby. I’m a sucker for horse movies.

Where was I celebrating the writing of Ready Player One? Saying that the bar for writing in blockbusters is very low isn't me celebrating it.

Munich - Spielberg even at his most subdued, continues to show off. Contains some of the most precise camerawork in his career. The way Spielberg moves through different perspectives through his zooms and dolly-shots is just impeccable. Some very subdued work from Williams too.
