Oppenheimer | 2024 Academy Award Winner for Best Picture and Best Director

Recommended Posts

The most hotly contested race for #1 at the box office in 2023 seems to be Barbie vs Oppenheimer. Even though Barbie does not yet have a trailer, most seem to be under the impression that the advantage is in Barbie's court.

From May through July, each weekend has one major blockbuster currently scheduled. With the exception of May 12th, which has none, and July 21st, which has both Barbie and Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer and Barbie seem to play well against each other as counter-programming. But on a larger scale, Oppenheimer is also counter-programming to the superhero films and family fair that will be dominating the summer of 2023.

But I would argue that Oppenheimer plays much better as counter-programming to Guardians, Fast & Furious and Little Mermaid in May, than it does to Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones in July, which all aim at slightly older male audience.

Plus, Oppenheimer's marketing has already begun, so it should be easier to push forward.

If May 12th doesn't work for Oppenheimer, perhaps June 23rd could work, as there's a solid chance that The Flash won't come out when currently scheduled.

@Sophie I merged your topic with the main movie thread for Oppenheimer as there was no need for a separate topic for that particular discussion. It can be held in this topic.

If you are specifically interested in a Barbie vs Oppenheimer domestic box office then there is a thread in the club section at

Will there be a trailer released with Avatar. With Avatar being so big I dont see any Imax preview like we have seen for  past Nolan movies. But a trailer should be there.

I don't yet, but MI:DR is getting something. It's possible Oppenheimer will release something too. I think it's tradition for Nolan

Jon Landau drops a major spoiler about Avatar 5 in this article. So yeah if Avatar 4 is going to get wild & a little crazy then 5 is going to get really weird.

Spoiler

Yes, according to producer Jon Landau, the Na’vi are coming to Earth!

“In movie five there is a section of the story where we go to Earth,” Landau told io9. “And we go to it to open people’s eyes, open Neytiri’s eyes, to what exists on Earth.

“Earth is not just represented by the [evil, Pandora-scrubbing human corporation] RDA,” he added. “Just like you’re defined by the choices you make in life, not all humans are bad. Not all Na’vi are good. And that’s the case here on Earth. And we want to expose Neytiri to that.”

We can only assume this means that Neytiri and co are going to travel across the cosmos to mankind’s home planet,

So IMAX viewers are getting 4 minutes of Tom Cruise's new movie, 2 minutes of Nolan's new movie, and 3h15m of Cameron's new movie.

Even at inflated ticket prices, that's a bargain lol.

I really, really wonder how they intend to market this movie (aside from it being another Josh Hartnett comeback vehicle). Unless there are some extended war battle scenes, where is the action...?
