Whether fair or not, not many movies released in the first quarter of the year (or even second quarter) get much love come award season. Not actually true anymore after EEAO and Hollywood might be desperate enough for "something" next year to try.

Sorry, but one recent outlier does not make a trend. Maybe times are changing, but you can’t count on that.

All the rumblings I’ve seen seem to indicate otherwise. Still, assuming this is true, it would put to bed any notion WB/Legendary plan to move from 11/3 due to the crowded November schedule. Merkel
So they will make a decision on whether to delay the movie or not just two months before the current release date? Aren't they cutting it a little close?
von Kenni
In any case, I've been waiting to see a proper Dune film for a quarter of century so half a year or year on top of that is fine. Can there be any other reasons than not been able to use actors in marketing to post-pone this?

Barbie is such an awards contender that it wouldn't pay off to have DUNC II this year and miss the opportunity to get it major nominations. No idea what WB awards slate is like next year but this year Barbie is it. Picture, Director, Script, Actress, Sup Actor, Song, Production design. WittyUsername
I would normally think this would be a better awards contender than Barbie, but I’m not sure about that at this point, especially if the Academy is really desperate for the ratings. I’m sure a Barbenheimer showdown at the Oscars sounds very appealing to them right now.

Barbenheimer would make great winners whichever won and I honestly think if AMPAS has any touch with audiences left it should be between them. Either would be a popular choice that they wouldn't feel ashamed of years later. Critics ratings are high for both so they have real merit. Both directors are previous nominees so not a fluke. Gavin Feng
They are willing to give Marvel up? I guess they are very close to Villeneuve and know something about the movie (even see some footage). Or just hearing The Marvels sucks.

Marvels look like shit on YT so IMAX can only make it look worse. I don't get movies with shoddy VFX and cinematography that go IMAX. Higher prices sure but shit is more obvious. The reason why some movies are IMAX heavy is because they do offer an enhanced experience (IMAX camera, state of the art effects, incredible cinematography). Not what assembly line products from Marvel are famous for. Edited July 27, 2023 by Valonqar 4 1
filmlover
Isn't Napoleon a confirmed IMAX release three weeks after this? Something tells me he was just throwing something out there for sound bite purposes cause if Nolan's only getting a three week deal in the format... Marathon
Well, something like Dune makes more sense as an IMAX screening than The Marvels which doesn't seem to offer anything visually that would benefit from IMAX.
