I'm not gonna say today was an amazing day, but this was the first day ever that NWH's comp actually increased, which does make me a bit more intrigued that things will perk up compared to the negativity people had today. But of course, this depends on if this increased momentum continues, which I can't guarantee will happen.

I sure do hope a certain upcoming real world event doesn't end up upending this movie's release :sadfleck:

This is the 3rd thread I've seen some comment on Russia's incursion into Ukraine somehow affecting movies.  Why in the world do any of you think that Warner Bros. or anyone is going to pull a film release because of this?  When is the last time something similar caused a movie to not be released?

I have no idea where you guys are getting this stuff.

Yeah it’s baffling. If you wanna be sad about Ukraine we have threads for that, but the idea that it will somehow affect the BO is historically ridiculous.

Russia pulled this same shit in 2014. Life goes on. In fact, it may simply drive them for escapism

I think The Lost City is headed for a breakout tbh. It actually looks like a lot of fun, moviegoing is becoming a viable/safe alternative for those looking to escape reality for at least a fleeting moment again, and the marketplace will be largely barren and ripe for a surprise hit by the time it comes out.

Quite good start to the year. Everything other than Moonfall has actually done well I think. In 2019 they all would have flopped I suppose.

And who knows may be Fantastic Beasts 3 get lucky as well.

agree mostly good but Nile and Marry Me are par or probably under

Me waiting for "takeoff", locally:

spanky-im-waiting.gif

Still creeping upward locally, but no sign of "takeoff".  Do think none of the comps are really good right now since all of them had socials and reviews out by now (with the exception of NWH, IIRC, but that's its own beast).

The Black Widow comp took a hit from the residual after effects of its review drop + the bringing back online of two of the Cinema West locations that were giving me fits at the time.  The last one comes back online tomorrow, so as of then everything will be an unadjusted comp once more.

Did go ahead and rope in No Time to Die and Dune, but as one can see from the pace, those comps will be coming down as well.

FTR, I did check out The Suicide Squad, as requested by @charlie JatinderThe Batman  is currently at 10.68x TSS as of T-8, or 43.78m. :jeb!:

Yeah, no. :hahaha:

Is what it is, locally.  No real way of knowing what's going on until the dust settles and I can see if we just have a different sales pattern here (or total for that matter) when it comes to DC films.

With how little product is coming out over the next month Death on the Nile should leg its way to around $40M, making it easily one of the bigger dramas of the pandemic era and better than I expected before release tbh. Can't help but think that the drama surrounding its cast ended up helping it rather than hurting given the low bar it needed to clear lol.
