I'll defend Godzilla but no.

Rogue One was meh

I'll do the opposite. Especially after watching Andor, which is easily the greatest sci-fi show of the 21st Century (yes, better than The Expanse and BSG).

As for Civil War, I see some comparisons to Children of Men. This is a good thing, imo. Garland continues to make films that have provocative substance. Men was a bit of a misfire, but it definitely wasn't predictable or boring. He's still making somewhat unique films while slightly borrowing from others.

Looks solid. I am still hung up on “California and Texas are working together.” Like was that added in to make sure the audience knows this is fiction? 💀

The Dodgers and Astros move past the trashcan banging scandal to unite together against the MLB Commissioner, and the dominos begin to fall

I got a feeling this is a shoot em pup action thriller made with not much reality involved . I think a second Civil War is a real possiblity, but it won't be replay of the first one, which is what the film seems to imply.

And I wonder if it is going to be very vague in it;s politics so as not to offend any potential audeince.

Sort of a "let's try to sell it as controversial without anything that might offend anybody" routine.

It really hasn't been sold as anything other than what it is. All the "controversy" is people reading into it.

Fact is it's getting really good reviews, so there is likely something to chew on even if isn't necessarily the ideological struggle validation social media wants from it.

This honestly does look like the kind of film that would’ve been seen as just a silly action thriller if it weren’t an A24 joint from Alex Garland.

Ironically the more outwardly silly action thrillers out of SXSW that have been getting the same kind of critical buzz haven't had their receptions so dismissed out of hand the way this movie has. People just have it out for Garland.

I just mean that we're in a politically divisive time right now so the movie will likely hit home for a lot of people.

Sound of Freedom was pushed by every Fox news/conservative radio host and Trump.  I don't think this movie is going to hit that crowd or get pushed by that group.

I suspect this movie might have a Sound of Freedom effect.

You think the star is gonna run an obvious AstroTurf scheme to sell more tickets to make it seem more culturally relevant than it is
