After this weekend, the number of movies reaching the mark of 1 million admissions are now 15. For comparison, 2019 had 34 movies reaching the mark, 2020 had 7 and 2021 had 10. Black Adam, Avatar 2 and Wakanda Forever are locked on reaching it, it will be interesting what other movies will manage to get there to at least close the top 20. Here is the full list:

1)- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - 8.204.977

2)- Thor: Love and Thunder - 6.120.000

3)- Minions 2: Rise of Gru - 6.100.000

4)- The Batman - 5.823.422

5)- Top Gun: Maverick - 4.950.000

6)- Jurassic World: Dominion - 3.887.627

7)- Spider Man: No Way Home - 3.754.490

8 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - 3.027.301

9)- Fantastic Beast: The Secrets of Dumbledore - 2.555.956

10)- Uncharted - 1.468.069

11)- Sing 2 - 1.426.305

12) - Lightyear - 1.270.068

13) - Morbius - 1.268.376

14) - Elvis - 1.010.000

15) - The Black Phone - 1.010.000

Time to update this, since we have now closed the top 20. Definitely some surprises from that list, mostly from how many horror movies and dramas reached the mark. If you ask me, what movies do I think can still sel 1 million tickets? Well, Avatar 2 is the only one locked. Strange World though have a good chance to make it and the re-release of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Yes! Last weekend it actually sold more in pre-sales than Black Adam), from the rest of the releases is hard to tell since even the Oscar movies are out only in 2023. Unfortunatelly is getting more likely that no local movie will do it before the year's end. Sad.

1)- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - 8.309.488

2)- Minions 2: Rise of Gru - 6.868.244

3)- Thor: Love and Thunder - 6.363.316

4)- The Batman - 5.825.660

5)- Top Gun: Maverick - 5.008.180

6)- Jurassic World: Dominion - 3.919.078

7)- Black Adam - 3.800.000

8 - Spider Man: No Way Home - 3.770.157

9) - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - 3.121.691

10) Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - 2.700.000

11)- Fantastic Beast: The Secrets of Dumbledore - 2.565.280

12)- Orphan: First Kill - 2.124.587

13)- Uncharted - 1.468.315

14) - Sing 2 - 1.435.561

15) - The Black Phone - 1.285.532

16) - Lightyear - 1.278.725

17) - Morbius - 1.271.861

18) - The Woman King - 1.190.073

19) - Elvis - 1.097.193

20) - Smile - 1.015.000

4 Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile 469.000 -46.1% 5.600.000 297.500
5 Prey for the Devil 333.000 -66% 6.500.000 347.000
6

One Piece Film - Red

10 The Woman King 57.000 -20.8% 22.900.000 1.210.000

In a rather boring week with no big releases, BP and BA remained on top, no surprise, and the local thriller Nada é Por Acaso cracked on 3rd place. Outside of that, nothing really relevant. Worth noting that the World Cup have started and historically it have a negative effect on the box office until its over. On a positive side though, it is possible that the effect will not be as big as the last one since most of the games will play on the morning of brazilian time.

Next weekend we will have Strange World, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Hard HIt,The Roundup and Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio (However with that last one there is a chances that numbers will not be reported, if it follows the trend of previous Netflix movies).

On monday and tuesday WF made R$20M and have reached 2.7M admissions total. Monday was the best day for the movie, beating even the launch day.

But holiday was on Tuesday, so how Monday best. Also if MON was big, SUN hold should have been better. I gotta find some dailies source for Brazil.

When the holiday is close to the beggining or end of the week is not unusual for schools to give an extra day off.

About the weekend, I forgot to mention that but the last two sundays it happened the ENEM, the yearly national high school exam. That is why the last two sundays were crap with a high boost on monday.

After this past week, One piece Film Red have become the highest grossing anime movie this year, in both box office and admissions. Worth saying too that the no. of screens for OP was half the amount Dragon Ball got, so the average-per-screen is also a lot better than the second place.

  1. ONE PIECE RED — R$6.2M (344k tickets);
  2. DBS: SUPER HERO — R$5,7M (331k tickets)
  3. JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 — R$4,8M (261k tickets);
  4. MY HERO ACADEMIA — R$554k (29,6k tickets);
  5. SWORD ART ONLINE PROGRESSIVE — R$147k (7,2k tickets);
  6. BELLE — R$88k (4,4k tickets);
  7. ODD TAXI: IN THE WOODS –– R$13,8k (564 tickets).

Yesterday was Brazil's first game on the World Cup, it turns out it did affected a lot since it was the lowest grossing thursday of the year lol

Strange World released in 3rd and The roundup in 5th.

More on that: the whole top 10 made R$656k, a drop of 72% compared to the thursday last week. From that, R$436k came from Wakanda Forever.

10 Hard Hit 74.000 --- 74.000 5.100

Note: Pinocchio released this weekend but no numbers were reported by Netflix

Big drops as most movies got affected by the world cup and you should be wise for this to keep on for the next few weeks. Strange World had a really low opening for a Disney animated feature, just a bit above Ron's Gone Wrong (R$1.6M). Audience scores are also really low with just 2.8.

Next weekend will also see a game of Brazil on friday and also the releases of The Menu, Bones and All, Violent Night and Shark Bait.

Without any game, last thursday grew 80% compared to last weekend. Violent Night released in 2nd pretty much tied to Strange World. However we did had a game this friday, so this one is expected to have a large drop compared to last weekend.

Audiences scores:

The Menu: 3.7

Bones and All: 3.7

Shark Bait: 1.6 (OUCH!)

Violent Night: 3.8

10 Nada é Por Acaso 184.000 -56.7% 2.040.000 135.590

First of all, sorry for the late ranking...So this week saw a lot of new releases and soft drops, unfortunately the game on friday brough a barrier on the holds doing even better. Twilight saw a re-release and we will see the whole franchise back to theaters, one at a time per-week until the year is over. Black Panther should pass R$100M soon.

Next weekend will again have a Brazil game on friday (Overall, december is being a really bad month to release movies), we will also release She Said, Devotion, Pronto Falei, Twilight New Moon and Sol.

It won't. It may mean a little bit more money is made a little bit sooner but in the end, the WC would be over by December 18 which is only 3 days into ATWOW run.

But the most important 3 days, I have long suspecting LATM is where A2 will underperform and WC certainly is a factor here, judging from how BO behave recent week in Brazil.

It wouldn't matter in the long run, is my point. Even if it would have effected BO by 50%, those people would just watch it a few days later or the next weekend.

This is not a SH movie depending on just OW. Avatar will have a leggy run in LATAM. softer OW should not matter. Plus with Brazil having exited the WC means the impact would be negligible over there. Argentina would be a factor as long as they are there. But irrelevant for overall run.

Bigger issue for Avatar are the awful exchange rates minus Mexico. So $ wise big drop from 1st movie.
