You know, I'm really starting to think Don't Worry Darling is going to be a mini-breakout next weekend. Nothing insanely crazy, but presales for Thursday night are STRONG. Sure, it'll be front-loaded as hell, but I think the crowd that pushed The Fault in Our Stars to 8M previews back in 2014 are now 8 years older (that's crazy) and will give this a similar type of boost (4M previews or so, 25M weekend).

What's crazy is that Don't Worry Darling debuting at #1 next weekend would mean back-to-back top openers from female directors. When is the last time that happened (if that's even happened before, nothing immediately jumps to mind)?

Also I can see where the A+ CinemaScore grade for The Woman King comes from after seeing it. My audience was completely into it and cheering at certain moments. Expecting it to reach a multiplier of at least 4x now (especially with light direct competition coming up).

It would also mean 3 out of the last 4 new releases that reach 1st place would be directed by a female director (DWD, The Woman King and The Invitation).

I was going to join with this and say how great it was to see this increase...but then rolled back and saw that despite this run the Invitation was the first female-direct number one of 2022 and indeed the first since Eternals.

So, forward steps but not exactly there yet.

We should be in for a big bump over the next two months. Already mentioned Barbarian, and then there's Woman King, DWD, Bros, Ticket to Paradise. We're moving on up people!

Shouldn't Encanto be there too?

-38.4% second weekend drop for Barbarian is excellent, without any expansion and losing all PLF’s to Woman King.

WOM kicking in despite the Cinemascore.

It's easy to see why it's having good legs after seeing it tbh. It's such a delightfully nutty movie that it falls into the category of "you need to see it to believe it."
