M37
I dunno, maybe the fact that BA had a higher IM/backloaded weekend and then a steeper Monday drop are related? Like maybe its audience draw is more weekend heavy, lees weekday, than other CBMs? Still might drop 60% in weekend 2 due to Halloween depression effect though Edited October 25, 2022 by M37

I can see all 3 horror movies getting a nice bump.

It’s not the just the holiday, it’s that so many Halloween themed events take place in the lead up that keeps people occupied, tends to make for a softer weekend Edited October 25, 2022 by M37
Borobudur
A steep drop but confirm that BA is family-friendly action flick that should do well over the weekend and 90% audience score after 5000 votes can never hurt it. Dune dropped 62% with HBO Max and Sunday Halloween. BA should at least match that % and likely lower.

He should compare it to eternals, they have similar 200m budgets and openings.
AJG
How much are they paying Deadline Anthony??? This is getting ridiculous. However, among Johnson’s first Mondays at the domestic box office, Black Adam is pretty powerful besting BOX OFFICE BEHEMOTH Central Intelligence ($4M) Even though Black Adam has a lighter Monday than Hobbs and Shaw, it’s ahead of that Fast and Furious spinoff in its 4-day total by A GARGANTUAN 8% Edited October 25, 2022 by AJG 9

Specifically. I thought there was a difference in the box office effect of Halloween on the weekend vs a weekday? Falling on the weekend is bad for box office because potential moviegoers are busy with other things: older teens/young adults go to parties, and parents of younger kids are dealing with Halloween stuff for their children instead of having a night out for themselves. When Halloween is in the middle of the week, the parties are mostly on the weekend, so that's more people free to go to movies on the 31st. A movie night (especially horror) is a way to do something celebratory on Halloween itself, when there's still work/classes tomorrow. For the young parents it's a wash, a lot of them are probably busy on Halloween night but school nights aren't a prime moviegoing time for families.

Eric Quinn
@M37 @Mojoguy Looking at 2016, the last time Halloween was on a Monday, holds didn't seem super bad that weekend? Only bad hold in the top 10 was Jack Reacher 2, which...yeah, probably will happen to Black Adam, so you got one there. Madea Halloween actually held up better than usual for Tyler Perry movies, albeit because of theming. These holds bode well for Paradise, Lyle, Smile, et al. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/2016W44/?ref_=bo_wey_table_14

Anyway, excellent for Smile, -38% on last Monday. Heading into weekend 5 and it’s multiplier is already at 3.76x.
