Speaking of flops, I don't know why but this is amusing to me. The power of appearing in the recommendations section of multiple projects from both the cast (Ozark, Grace & Frankie) and the director (The Adam Project, Levy-produced Stranger Things) on Netflix, I guess.

This Is Where I Leave You is underrated. It’s a nice little movie with a fantastic cast, and has Driver in a comedic role which he doesn’t really do outside of SNL.

In addition to Creed exploding, this is actually a pretty solid weekend overall aside from Ant-Man's second big drop in a row (probably just as much on losing all IMAX/PLF screens to Creed as it is to the tepid WOM). Even Operation Fortune's opening isn't that bad for a movie that 1) sat on the shelf for a while and 2) was only added to the schedule not even a month ago.

they will probably just blame the Ant Man character. They probably need something like an Avengers movie or GOTG 3 to flop before they consider any changes.

40/100 I think is all we can hope for (assuming the movie gets decent reviews).

If I were Marvel I'd be pretty worried right about now. The chokehold they had on pop culture last decade is fading, and now we're starting to see a lot of different properties pull in big numbers, like Avatar, Top Gun, Puss in Boots and now Creed. Had Ant-Man 3 been well received I feel like we wouldn't be seeing such a big number for Creed 3 right now.

Marvel isn't dying in the slightest.

What makes it even funnier is seeing notorious bomb RIPD in second place. Kinda fitting though, since both would absolutely be Netflix originals if they were made now.

I would also argue the first two Creed didn’t have the greatest holiday legs bc they’re not good holiday movies. This is a much better spot on the cal for this type of movie. A boxing film is too niche/too slight to really rise above in the holiday frame, but it can definitely do so during a quieter time of year.

This is my feeling as well. This feels like it's going to be playing for a long time.

It's enjoyable, but serious enough that it stands out against most of the other options out there.

The budget for Creed III was $75m which isn't an issue as it's going to be profitable just from domestic alone but seems expensive for what is a boxing drama.

had to pay extra for security to keep Sly from driving his car thru the set.

Shame about Operation Fortune, really. I thought it looked like a lot of fun, and it's great to see Ritchie reteaming with Hugh Grant after Gentlemen, and with Hartnett/Statham after Wrath of Man. Didn't release in Canada so I didn't get the chance to see it (yet) but I'm really hoping I enjoy it. Looks a lot better than his upcoming film, at least.

What will Sly think now that the biggest Creed / Rocky is the one without him (unadjusted).

Rocky 1 adjusts to over 500m and 2, 3, and 4 well over 400m. Not to mention decades of home media sales/rentals and TV airings. In terms of actual viewers Creed 3 won't even come close those films. It is interesting how badly Rocky V dropped from its predecessors though. Yeah it is bad but you would think the franchise name would have attracted a decent audience

Stallone's career was in the toilet domestically when ROCKY V came out. However it still made more worldwide than CREED and CREED II did adjusted - $260m.

I mean the Rocky movies made massive bank on the Thanksgiving holiday. I think the bigger issue is just that both years had intense December competition that made it hard for the movie to maintain screen space. Like on Creed II's fifth weekend, five different movies came out. Three of them were the major December players. That's a lot to deal with.

I hate to break it to you, but we're close to the Rocky franchise being 50 years old, not 30.

It's okay. I often feel like the 90s were about 10 years ago.

The past couple years have broken me in terms of "wait, that movie or show is that old?" Realizing that Ratatouille is over 15 years old was utterly surreal. I can still picture myself being 10 years old and watching all the promos on Disney Channel hyping it up. What a world we live in.

It’s Jenna Ortega’s franchise now.

Fast-tracking Scream 6 is going to retroactively be an even bigger genius move on Paramount's end than previously, as they can now take advantage of the Wednesday hype just a couple of months afterward.
