This was probably done a while back and we're just hearing about it now. Sometimes announcements are timed specifically to the release of related projects.

From the article:

The deal was reached prior to the writers strike.

Oh this is going till at least October.

I'm thinking longer. If streaming truly is losing as much money as everyone is saying, and both striking parties want a bigger piece of the streaming pie, why would studios cave to demands? They're saving money right now. Sure, there's money being lost on productions that had to be put on pause, but we've seen full movies get shitcanned (Batgirl) so that cost will be negligible compared to being able to size down their output overall.

Most people think they won't even start negotiations until early September so yeah more than likely.

Still laughing that they got a deal done with the directors guild when directors have already said they're not filming again until SAG and WGA get fair deals.

Not they using the strike trying to save Kraven which is apparently awful and giving room to SpiderVerse that would never make that date anyway

The only actual move that seems related to the strike is Ghostbusters, which is bad for them because i think Christmas was a better date

Films are constantly getting tweaked and in need of adr and pick ups up to the release date. Never mind that obviously films need to be promoted to have a fighting chance. I’m all for being cynical with Sony, especially their non Spider-Verse and MCU joints, we all knew that Beyond Spider-Verse wasn’t making the release date, but this is just the first of what I fully expect to be a lot of moves. Sony is just the first making it official.
