This right here is why at least some studios do want these strikes to bleed into next year, as it gives them the perfect excuse to get rid of some baggage, such as these expensive first look deals. We've even seen some series previously in development get canned as well, such as Metropolis over at Apple. You can expect to see more headlines like this for the next 6 or so months. Only when Hollywood is done throwing out what they see as trash will they even entertain the thought of a peace treaty.

Suspending simply means not paying although I think the JJ Abrams deal ends this year so I think it once the strikes are resolved, they won't be renewing it either way.

Many overall deals have been suspended since the strike began. This is non-news, really.

They haven’t canceled these deals — they’ve suspended them and the length of the suspension will be added on to the end of the deal once work resumes.

The longer a deal doesn't happen the more likely it is that somebody gets tired of waiting.
