Theaters are pretty desperate for content right now. Taylor and Flower Moon are the only movies pulling grosses over $6M this weekend (and the former only plays on weekends).

Freelance will be a non-starter, a brief glance around my area shows maybe a handful or tickets sold, low single digits OW incoming.

I’m more interested in After Death, Angel Studios’ new release. Hot off Sound of Freedom and their marketing success there. Already quite a bit of pre-sales, of course their movies are way more frontloaded than average, but I think I’ll add that film to my update today. I think @Hilts was tracking it too down in Oklahoma

FNAF, counted on Thursday (= 3 days ago) for Thursday, October 26. 7 days left:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 204 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 321 (7 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 109 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 54 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 101 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 117 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 787 (13 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 1.693

Up modest 7% since my last counting on Tuesday.
Comps (all 6 films counted on Monday of the release week for Thursday): The Nun II (3.1M from previews) had 459 = 11.5M + 4 days left for FNAF,
Saw X (2M) had 400 = 8.5M + 4 days left,
GotG III (17.5M) had 4.303 = 6.9M + 4 days left,
Scream 6 (5.7M) had 1.295 in 6 theaters vs 1.489 for FNAF in 6 theaters = 6.6M + 4 days left,
JW 4 (8.9M) had 2.048 = 7.4M + 4 days left
and The Meg 2 (3.2M) had 254 sold tickets = 21.3M + 4 days left.
Barbie (22.3M) had also with 7 days left 2.941 sold tickets = 12.8M.

Idk why the increases in my theaters are so muted since ca. 1 week. Maybe that's because it had stellar numbers ca. 1 month before the release and a little adjustment is normal.

I will count it again today.

wait so does this actually happen in irl opening weekends?? or is the thurs-fri BO gap probably gonna narrow closer to release date?

Unless you have a movie aimed at small children, 5x thursday for a Friday is not happening

Welp let me tell you about the FNAF fandom...

Freddy Fazbear Spost GIF

(I'm half-joking, but there's definitely hype from middle schoolers and even younger kids lmao)

its way too big in previews to have that kind of thu-fri multi and FNAF won't really be for small kids who need a guardian figure to accompany them to the movie so there won't be that kind of jump

Is anyone else finding Freelance in a lot more theatres than they would have expected?

It's in 28 of 34 theatres in my radius right now. For a film that doesn't have much hype or marketing, it feels like a oversized footprint. It's sold 11 tickets across the ~10 theatre radius I've been using.

Only in 9 of the 25 I look at, max 3 showtimes per so pretty low profile here. Only sold a measly 2 tickets so far making any comps useless!

Yep I will try and drop daily updates from today, just tricky to find relevant comps. Dropping random ones alongside it seems to be around $1m or just under at the moment. SoF comp pushes it way down as that over-indexed here so trying to ignore that but I may add it for reference.

Separately, I looked at Priscilla yesterday but it's only in 3 theatres right now so not really sure how that's rolling out. Needless to say not much going on there whilst availability is limited. The Holdovers is a similar story.

Very briefly: Freelance had today for Thursday meager 16 sold tickets in 4 theaters. I'm sorry, I said a few hours ago that it has showtimes in all 7 theater but I forgot that I stopped counting/did not count in the smaller theaters after only a handful of tickets were sold some days ago 😏. But in the 4 theaters it gets enough/too many showtimes both on Thursday and Friday.

Comps (all three movies counted on Monday of the release week for Thursday): The Expend4bles (750k from previews) had 130 sold tickets,

Plane (435k) had 89
and Meg 2 (3.2M) had 254 sold tickets.

FNAF, counted today for Thursday, October 26. 4 days left:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 232 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 383 (7 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 124 (6 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 59 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 128 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 138 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 887 (13 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 1.951.

Up at least better 15% since my last counting on Thursday.
Comps (all 6 films counted on Monday of the release week for Thursday): The Nun II (3.1M from previews) had 459 = 13.2M + 1 day left for FNAF,
Saw X (2M) had 400 = 9.8M + 1 day left,
GotG III (17.5M) had 4.303 = 8M + 1 day left,
Scream 6 (5.7M) had 1.295 in 6 theaters vs 1.719 for FNAF in 6 theaters = 7.6M + 1 day left,
JW 4 (8.9M) had 2.048 = 8.5M + 1 day left
and The Meg 2 (3.2M) had 254 sold tickets = 24.6M + 1 day left.

On average 12M + 1 day left.

Some comps are still a bit weak but as mentioned some of these films e.g. JW4 make every film look bad in comparison. And 12M+ feels at least better than the number on Thursday where it had more days left but tiny jumps.
