The Box Office Buzz, Tracking, and Pre-Sale Thread

I think the first trailer was released late enough that they didn't feel the need for a second full trailer, and will just wait until tickets go on sale to release another piece3 of marketing. And that single trailer has been pushed very hard over the last three months, to the point that it's a bit of a meme on Film Twitter. I have to imagine they're just waiting for all of the holiday movies to have their moment before going full steam ahead.

Yep Universal has Nightswim coming next week so they will probably drop the second trailer in front of that and maybe have tickets go on sale.

No signs of a break-out, but I really wouldn't expect people to be buying advance tickets for this during the holidays. We shall see.

At T-14, Wonka was at 192 tickets sold, so in total tickets sold this is pretty much on par with that here (@Porthos). Obviously much more concentrated in EA at this point but it is a good sign in terms of general demand. Right now it is looking like the EA could reach a million, but I do keep in mind that all of these had walk-ups (summer or Saturday) that Mean Girls will not have. So we shall see.

Still looking pretty solid from where I'm seating, since again, I don't imagine the holidays to be a pre-sale heavy time!

This is one of the few films where the Insidious comp might be viable (and M3GAN for those that have it). The release right after the holidays is going to lead to poor early sales and a big final push

Also the EA/Thursday split for Mean Girls is giving me like 80 for Brady vibes ...

Good point. An Insidious comp at T-7 spits out:

0.45x: $2.24 Million

Not bad at all! While not expecting an Insidious level late growth, I do think it’ll be somewhere in the middle between this and those comps in my original post

Happy New Year @abracadabra1998 (and everyone). You are definitely one of the MVPs holding this thread together. Especially as we hit a barren phase most of next year.

Rose against all comps, but we're talking small numbers at the moment which means big swings can happen. Still, maybe a good sign things are picking up this final week!

Also, thank you @keysersoze123 I really appreciate it, and that really means a lot :) hope you had an awesome start to your 2024!

Ok, so as promised this is the new tracking region I will be using. I don't have a specific number, but thinking its around ~80% of all Florida screens available on Fandango. Going to have no comps for a while.

Great that you'll be covering a larger footprint with utilizing Fandango, rather than the per-circuit scripts you'd use before! I know some chains will use the same session for both the standard and specialty seating, just noting differences in their seat maps ,on their own sites (i.e. Cinemark for their D-BOX), whereas Fandango will separate these - you're likely already aware of this for the show counts, but just in case. In the coming days I'll likely DM you, to share something that may assist with speeding up your initial show listing.
