Quote

A Haunting in Venice gets the same CinemaScore grade as its predecessors, a B. Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak exits were harder at 73% positive and a 48% recommend. Guy leaning at 52%, with the largest demo interestingly being 25-34 at 36%. The over 45 club repped 28%. Even though guys have the edge, women over 25 showed up at 39%. They gave the film a 76% grade, while those over 55 gave it an 81%. Diversity demos were 53% Caucasian, 18% Latino and Hispanic, 9% Black and 14% Asian. Close to a third of the gross for A Haunting in Venice is coming from the West with PLF and Imax driving 39% of the gross. AMC Burbank, of course, is the top grossing venue in the nation with $34K to date.

This is hysterical. A film that is literally designed for stodgy grandmas and grandpas and nobody else, yet the youths are still the biggest audience. Old people are just never coming back to theaters ever again lmao

Again, I ask, why was this made?

They came back for TGM. Old people will come back for the right movie, but it has to be special.

Venice's opening day is actually nearly $500K higher than Nile's which saw its overall weekend softened by the Super Bowl that Sunday. Honestly not bad. Should at least match that movie's $45M total with not much in the way of direct competition for a while.

I actually kind of like these weekends. Everything is chill, films get to do a wee bit better than they could have otherwise. Life is good.

I kind of agree lol. Other than the fact that I do want to catch Venice in theaters, it’s also nice to take a bit of a break from movies on weekends like this and catch up on other things in life.

It looks like a typical weekend where movie theater subscriber base shows up...and few others do.

From Deadline - an estimated $62.5M for all movies.  That's it...

Given all the shit that Death On The Nile went through in terms of delays and actor controversies, and yet it still managed to cross $100M, my guess is Disney was like “we’ll give you another one as long as it’s cheaper.”

Not sure what's supposedly baffling about Haunting In Venice existing.

First one was successful. Second had everything against it and still churned out 140m and apparently good post-cinema life and the nature of whodunits and adaptations is that they will ALWAYS have a long shelf life and be thrown on TV station programming in the afternoon decades later. And it was being made for a lowered price tag. Murder mysteries are good to have in the portfolio and they tend to come with a pretty solid floor, especially in the long term. As evidenced by, despite the doomposting, it having an opening weekend better than the far more ostentations DOTN.

Oh and also....it's really good.

Plus loads of people would love that film just for the Venicecore of it.
