so Marvel can just brush off what is likely going to be one of the biggest bombs of all time with no changes?

You are conflating "not firing Feige and scrapping all announced projects for tax reasons" as "no changes". Again, we ready know they're scaling back budgets on projects, including movies. Stuff like Spotlight seems to be made to highlight projects that are less continuity heavy so that audiences alienated by that can get into it easier. More R rated projects to skew to older audiences. Animated projects set (seemingly) outside any sort of main MCU tie ins. They already announced they revamped their TV approach and development, even scrapping what could be a full year of production on Daredevil to make it a better show. And yes, they clearly are open to recasting Kang, though it seems they're waiting as the court case develops before making that call. And also delays, but strikes made that inevitable regardless of how well The Marvels does.

But also, yes, making the biggest film in history does make it easier to take a big hit when they have to.

Guaranteed the changes are already in motion (just look at how they're marketing Echo so early), especially with how poor the marketing is for this film. Like, sure, they're marketing it, but they're doing what seems to be the bare minimum.

I do think some of Echos marketing comes from the initial November 29 release date, which is why they had a red carpet premiere with press incredibly far in advance. But the reception seems to have been very positive so far so hey, if it works it works.

To make it even worse (or more appropriate), there's also a Marvel Supervillian named "Scarecrow".

Comics.  Gotta love 'em. 🙂

This idea that Disney can just continue to brush off failures isn't reality. They have been having a rough couple of years in a lot of areas within the company.  Their stock has cratered to levels not seen since the start of the pandemic. Bombs from their motion picture division are not just a big yawn.  Changes are likely coming if the next couple of movies lose money.  I don't think Feige himself is on the chopping block but they will definitely take a look at how they are handling the Marvel IP as well as Pixar and everything else that's been having issues.

Who is saying this.

Name names please.

Who, specifically, is saying "Nothing is changing in the MCU/Marvel and Disney is just 'brushing off failures'"?

What gets me is the idea that Marvel is just sitting on its hands (or if one prefers burying their heads in the sand).

They've delayed multiple shows/films.

They've retooled shows/radically reworked projects.

They've cut back on pace of content.

There are rumors that even more serious changes are afoot.

What exactly more do folks want?  A notarized and dated apology with a Commitment To Be Better?

Marvel might have done many things this year (and looks to be doing in the near future) but "just brush off failures" isn't one of them.

Wouldn't be BOT if everyone was logical and even keeled about what is happening versus playing to "muh feelings..." not new, but yeah, this is an odd pearl to clutch on with the evidence we do have.

At least they aren't doubling down like WB did with Flash on Marvels as if it was the best thing to have hit cinema before it flopped to the heavens.

Exactly. They can change directions and approach without a Gunn style clean slate. DCs problems are very different than Marvels.

Feige has been permanently trying to reshuffle the MCU slant, delaying projects ever since Endgame, and we are seeing The Marvels as the result of that. Change is easier said than done cause they should have hard pivoted from Kang ever since Antman 3 flopped and made him a Saturday Night Live character. But so hard they haven't.

...Because it's his job?

Obviously it's his job. How is that relevant? I have the same view on MI8, does McQuarrie get a pass because directing is his job? I'm not critiquing the format itself, there are hundreds of incredible video essays out there. I'm criticising the delivery and execution of it.

Changing the subject a little, anyone know why Across the Spider-Verse had such a muted Netflix launch? Felt like everyone was talking about this film when it came out, but it came to Netflix on Halloween, and nary a peep from any major outlet.

EDIT: It's wild that this film has a 4.5 on Letterboxd, and yet no one is talking about the film's streaming release.

The movie has already done very well at the box office and on PVOD, much more so than the last, so I don't think it will be the streaming juggernaut that the first was out the gate. Plus, streaming analytics are always a bit behind so I'm not sure if there's any way to see how it's doing currently.

you need to think bigger. Marvel is Disney after all.

Who can then go on to lead the prequel-reboot of "LXG"
