Weekend Numbers [Aug 02 - Aug 04, 2024] | Actuals | 96.81M DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE | 22.80M TWISTERS | 15.45M TRAP

Seems like it'll land in the same area Old (just shy of $17M) did. I feel like the decision to completely hide it from critics paused any momentum it might've had, a perplexing choice when the reviews from those now getting the chance to see it aren't even that bad. WB must be ready to move on from their overall poor summer with Beetlejuice and Joker right around the corner.

Trap was pretty bad, IMO. Saw it last night in a medium size theater probably 25-30 people.  It felt like the crowd was into the movie during the concert (some laughs from the audience) but the film kept going and going.  A little surprised by the already low audience score on RT because the movie is what you'd expect from M. Night....awful dialogue you'd think was written by an alien but some fun moments.

2 weeks ago you could reasonably believe that DPW might be doing <3x Trap this weekend (like 70 vs 25). Now it will likely be over 5x, maybe even 6x+

It's doing pretty decently sales wise as it is. Reviews might not be terrible but they're not exactly good either, and I think preserving the details of a mystery/thriller is the way to go if you can't rely on critics to prop you up. Warner will take a small victory at this point.

So it's basically a M Night movie from the last 20 years or so. Did like Knock at the Cabin though when I watched it on Amazon and Split was good and then he shit the bed with Glass.

What did DPW make on Thursday?

Here’s how Thursday went down at the box office: Deadpool & Wolverine grossed an awesome $18M, easily a R-rated record for a non-preview Thursday. M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap earned $2.2M, the best previews the director has had post Covid besting Old ($1.5M) and Knock at the Cabin ($1.45M), while Sony’s Harold and the Purple Crayon, as expected, is nothing to write home about at $725K.
