The battle for the top spot might be somewhat close between the Top 3 films this weekend but Your Name. should add yet another week atop the box office to its incredible run so far, and if it does, it'll achieve its eleventh non-consecutive week at #1.

Also after this weekend, it'll have exceeded 14 million admissions, making it the eighth most-attended film of all-time (surpassing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), and it'll be very close to becoming the seventh most-attended film of all-time as well (likely <50,000 shy of Princess Mononoke).

>Jack Reacher: Never Go Back got off to a decent first day yesterday, earning around ¥50/55 million ($500,000). Its pre-sales for Saturday, and its morning/afternoon ticket sales, are pretty good, too, so it should achieve a debut comfortably above ¥200 million. By comparison, the first film opened with ¥240 million, so the sequel seems to be maintaining a strong retention rate.

Tom Cruise is quite arguably the biggest Hollywood draw of all-time in Japan (only Johnny Depp, and to a much lesser extent - lack of blockbuster material - Angelina Jolie compare), and he continues to bring in audiences to see his films in the market to this day.

>Museum doesn't appear to be doing quite as well as anticipated (popular director and lead actor, and also a proven genre - detective/thriller), but it still has a fair shot at reaching the ¥200 million mark over the weekend and that's perfectly okay for a film this time of year.

The english dub which will be screening along side sub version this upcoming release in UK on Nov 18th.

Getting great critical reviews so far with 100% RT with an avg of 8.7 (10 reviews)

EDIT: Empire just gave it 5 stars so when its added should jump to close to a 8.9

>Your Name., in its twelfth weekend in release, once again claims the #1 spot and achieves its eleventh non-consecutive week atop the box office. Its twelth weekend is also the third biggest of all-time, behind only Frozen and Spirited Away.

Makoto Shinkai's epic success is closing in on the All-Time Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films, and will probably crack the All-Time Top 5 by the end of the month when it surpasses Princess Mononoke and perhaps Howl's Moving Castle as well. After twelve weeks in release, its admissions has climbed to 14,209,346, making it the seventh most-attended film of all-time by surpassing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Princess Mononoke on Sunday.

>Museum came close to opening in first place, but ultimately had to settle for a second place debut. That debut was pretty good, though, with the Hiroshi Otomo directed detective film selling 180,217 admissions over the weekend on 332 screens.

>Jack Reacher: Never Go Back improved over estimates, and comes in 21% below the opening weekend of the first film. The sequel sold 140,189 admissions over the weekend frame, and 193,637 admissions since Friday across 427 screens. Tom Cruise continues to prove his drawing power in a market where he's been able a top draw for 30 years now.

>Death Note: Light Up the New World still can't seem to stabilize and will probably fall behind 2006's first Death Note after next weekend, much less have any chance at reaching the heights of two sequels before it. However... it'll still break ¥2 billion ($20 million) without any problem, and possibly end up closer to ¥2.5 billion ($25 million). So despite turning out to be the lowest-grossing film in the franchise, which wasn't unexpected, it'll finish with a respectable number.

I hate the moment when that song begins - it's awful

Beside that it's a good trailer and it's good to know what they are saying :)

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/hagarenmovie/

Does this feel too similar to ATTACK ON TITAN 1 and 2?

Full Metal Alchemist >>>> Attack On Titan and not really similar in terms of story

I had no idea they made a film. The budget and effects look about the same level as Titan which is disappointing

And a 23 year old singer playing Elric is just wrong.:whip:

Japan simply cannot afford good special effects in their movies. Not sure how compressing a story rich 64 episode TV show into a movie is going work. Probably going to be worse than Attack on Titan film.

I didn't actually mind the attack on Titan movies, thought they were kinda goofy fun. I think they're a prime candidate for a Hollywood take though.

I can't wait for the reaction when Hollywood re-makes the movies that they've "whitewashed" Titan and Full Metal Alchemist:lol:

A lot of changed since then, the ER is much less advantageous, and The Hobbit showed the Japanese wasn't inclined to be excited by a spin-off. So for FB I'll be happy if it can reach 45-50m already

Considering this and the UK were the biggest markets for HP and seeing how this doesn't have nearly as bad an ER, anything under 50m would be disappointing. I am expecting 60m and hoping for 70m. Asia so far has overperformed. Let's hope this continues.
