JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

TA tue-thu should end up about lc690m, admits about 480kTA did more on Tues than TR weekend and once TA opened TR just died (tue-Thu about 30% of TA Tue-Thu total))

Thank you, you're the best. So about 8.8M and probably around 15-16M opening week. It passed 850M OS, crazy accomplishment that nobody saw coming. :) :) :) Edited by druv10

Considering $850m WW was my optimistic prediction, it's safe to say I was a wee bit wrong. That is a freaking awesome achievement. It may not be the best film of the year, or even the best superhero film in my eyes, but it's good to see the whole world rally behind a film that isn't Harry Potter, Ice Age or the anomaly of James Cameron.

10 (8) ¥80 million / $1.0 million :: Naruto: Road to Ninja :: Toho :: Week 4

No official numbers were reported for 'The Avengers' after it's opening day, so it's still difficult to project anything. Going off past films that opened on Tuesday or Wednesday during Obon and Summer Vacation, the weekend gross usually isn't that much higher than the opening day figure. There are very few examples, so this is a rough prediction or guess.

Drops the weekend after Obon is usually kind, especially for family films, so expect good holds for 'Wolf Children', 'Madagascar', and 'Pokemon' again. Live-action films vary alot in their drops, but usually fall between 25-35%.

'Umizaru 4' will fall out of first place after spending five-consecutive weeks there. 'Wolf Children' will likely overtake it, too, though 'Umizaru 4' may become the #1 film of the year this weekend surpassing 'Thermae Romae'.

'Fairy Tail' is opening in under 100 locations but should still post a respectable debut for the first film in the franchise.

Projected Totals After Sunday (¥1 billion+):

'Umizaru 4' - ¥6.0/6.1 billion ($77 million), 4.6/4.7 million admissions after 38 days.

'Pokemon 15' ~ ¥3.0/3.1 billion ($39 million), 2.8/2.9 million admissions after 37 days.

'Wolf Children' ~¥2.9/3.0 billion ($38 million), 2.3/2.4 million admissions after 30 days.

'The Dark Knight Rises' ~¥1.6/1.7 billion ($21 million), 1.2/1.3 million admissions after 23 days.

'Madagascar 3' ~¥1.4/1.5 billion ($18 million), 1.2/1.3 million admissions after 19 days.

'Naruto 9' ~¥1.3/1.4 billion ($16 million), 1.1/1.2 million admissions after 23 days.

'The Avengers' ~¥1.2-1.6 billion ($15-20 million), 900,000-1.1 million admissions after 6 days.

'Brave' ~¥900 million-1 billion ($12 milion), 600,000-700,000 admissions after 30 days.

'Umizaru 4' will probably become the #1 film of 2012. If not this weekend, then on Monday or Tuesday.

'Wolf Children' may pull ahead of 'Pokemon' and hit ¥3 billion. If that happens, it's likely to outgross 'Kokuriko Hill's' ¥4.46 billion ($58 million) total last year.

'The Dark Knight Rises' should surpass it's predecessor total of ¥1.6 billion this weekend.

'Naruto 9' will soon become the top grossing Naruto film ever.

'Brave' may finally reach the ¥1 billion milestone and not be considered a commercial failure. But it's still really, really bad regardless.

Rth said it did 690M Yen over Tues-Thursday.

If accurate, it failed to reach 1 billion yen by Saturday then and is very unlikely to make 1.5 billion yen ($20 million) over it's six-day opening. Not saying that's disappointing, just saying. It's barely after noon though, but I'm pretty sure that milestone would have been reported once it reached it.

Hey it's still very good. All I wanted was 35M from Japan and looks like it'll deliver that. :) :) :)
