if it follows last weeks pattern we could see a sub-10k toho thursday for the first time this week, though toho only accounts for 20% so it's more symbolic than anything else.

I just did a quick check and the last Conan (Lupin III vs detective conan) movie was released in December 2013.

The "pure" Conan movie was released last April.

Normally, we don't categorize Lupin III vs detective conan in the every year Conan series.

No, Conan movies are always released on the exact same weekend every year. That crossover movie with Lupin III is just a special one. Lupin III is a character from another anime/manga.

You mean 7.1m dollars . Anyway you're right, this year's movie will have a plot with continuing story from the TV version/manga and characters that are connected directly to the main plot of the whole anime/manga. As a fan, I'm more excited than usual, so I can imagine it will have some impact, especially on its OW. On the other hand, casual fans who don't read the manga or watch the TV anime might find it a little bit confusing.

 

But the last time important characters from the main plot of the TV anime/manga appeared in the movie version (2009), it scored the highest grossing Conan movie ever (before last year's movie broke the record). Then again, Conan's appeal, as wide as it is, is limited. It can grow, but not that much. I'm sure Conan will lose many screens on its 2nd weekend, but I hope not all of those screens go to the new movies, so Frozen can get at least some of them back.

Wait, you're not seriously comparing Frozen with movies in the 70s are you? Like, really? You surely know it's a completely different era, with different release pattern and different situation, right? They may have similar results so far, but very different factors behind them. A piece of advice, don't post this in other threads, or you'd be laughed at.

You missed the point. Im not comparing the movies. its the numbers. Doesn't matter what the underlying subject is. You can compare parabolic runs and ensuing crashes from the 18th century dutch tulip auction to the 1929 run and crash to japans Nikkei 1989 peak and dump and US real estate market bubble in 2005. In the markets you can see peoples crazy euphoria in the ridiculous pops and their despair in the crashes no matter the century or asset traded. .

 

The box off numbers displays WOM, excitement and resonance within a population. In both cases, in the end, were tracking people and their behavior. Its exciting to see something catch on and then predict the degree of its "viralness", for me anyway.

 

Bubbles act in similar fashion to one another as do BO runs

 

Look at jaws, et, SW on bom and tell me you don't see the same "behavior". Funny thing. the theater count and weekend numbers are close to japan frozen

I did look at Jaws & SW on BOM. That's why I agreed that Frozen has a similar pattern so far. But they were adding theaters for Jaws & SW throughout their runs, while Frozen will lose screens from now on. So if you're comparing the numbers, why are you using movies in a completely different era? IMO that's rather useless. Why not say, Avatar? It would make more sense, since in Japan, it kept making the same amount of money every weekend, just like Frozen. And it was only 4 years ago. It's much more likely that Frozen will follow Avatar's behavior than Jaws or Star Wars.

I bumped up weekend 7 due to 3D and sing along release. This projection is with 15% average drops outside of GW which has yet to materialize in the run. At 10% or less and a 100% hold here or there and it climbs to 300m

nevermind. if you read my post you would understand that trends repeat throughout centuries and there are interesting comparisons with jaws as avatar. the only thing that is useless is your opinion. Are you always this argumentative with out cause with your boyfriend?
