Ozymandias
I'm calling a Life of Pi win after that trailer. I'm calling a Life of Pi win after that trailer. I don't get it.. it looks kinda cartoony. I'd still be utterly shocked if Prometheus or The Hobbit don't win it.
CloneWars
I don't get it.. it looks kinda cartoony. I'd still be utterly shocked if Prometheus or The Hobbit don't win it.I agree. The CG doesn't impress me. It looks like CG from 10 years ago.
The Futurist
The academy mixed up production design and Special effects for Hugo. The movie had nothing groundbreaking SFX wise, NOTHING.THe only super complex shot is the opening one, done by ILM and they already done these kinds of things ...ROTPOTA was robbed as the first Transformers movie who rewrote the book on CGI characters lighting and integration in a live environement. Check out the behind the scenes feature on the blu ray if you get a chance.
tommycruise
Wait why would TDKR be nominated? I thought Nolan like to keep everything practical?
Kvikk Lunsj
Wait why would TDKR be nominated? I thought Nolan like to keep everything practical? That is why. TDK and Inception where both nominated. Nolan made the batwing. A Nolan blockbuster visual effects are ddifferent then other blockbusters.
MagnetMan
My early vote is Cloud Atlas. Life of Pi has too much of a What Dreams May Come flavor to its FX.
yads
I wouldn't mind if Prometheus won, but my money would be on The Hobbit.

The Futurist
Nolan thinks is so hip with his practical effects thing but it depends on what you have to film.Look, the guy hates fantasy so his practical effects can lick my sack the day he tries to make an Avengers movie,Transformers King KOng, Hobbit or Avatar. Those movies would look incredible with the guys who did the Nolan's batmobile I am telling you !Yeah, right . Jessie
The Acadamy get it wrong most years when it comes to special effects so may the worst prediction win... Edited September 11, 2012 by Jessie
The Futurist
As I said earlier, the Academy sometimes rewards the production design of the special effects ( see Hugo) or the visual idea behind a special effect ( see Inception) more than the actual SFX.The Playstation 1 white bear from Golden COmpass beating the first Transformers ( a major landmark in CGI) was a travesty.
CoolioD1
Inceptions win was totally justified. Had some great practical effects in there.
