eXtacy
Beauty and the Beast did 175m so it would not be impossible for the Lion King. Star Wars IX and Infinity War also a chance. Either way. Disney wins.

YM!
It's going to either be SWIX (which will happen even if it moves to December 2019) or Lion King for the $250M OW.

peludo
Episode IX The prequel trilogy can be a good example. TPM already opened massively. It had the problem to open on Wednesday, but that OD adjusts to $50m without 3D and in less than 3,000 theaters. Even with that opening it was able to manage a $113m OW (adjusted) in the same amount of theaters. It was a monstruous opening. Like SW7 was. Well, after (IMO) TPM and Episode II deception, ROTS was able to set the OD record on Thursday ($70m adjusted, and again, without 3D). After that, a $150m OW and $220m 4-day opening in 3,600 theaters, 500 less than TFA. Some can say ROTS was the link film between prequels and Episode IV, and it had lots of nostalgia moments, but Episode IX will be (I guess) the closure of a 42 years saga. And it will be Summer. That OW will be gigantic. If SW9 is not able to do it, then we will have to wait maybe a decade until inflation can approach the big CBMs to that level. I do not see any other announced candidate. John Marston
Star Wars 9 is scheduled for Memoriql Day weekend. Which means its numbers will be spread over four days which could prevent this from happening
a2k
SW9 has the best and only shot. Can't think of any other movie that can come close to 250. Not even SW8. JW2 and IW should be 190-210.

Not sure what you meant by numbers being spread out. I don't think 3-days worth of numbers will be spread out over 4-days. If anything thanks to holidays, 5-days worth of audience will see it in 4-days. Edited July 23, 2017 by a2knet
