I think it does in this day and age with Twitter. Avengers managed a bigger non-midnight increase on its Saturday than SM1 had 10 years ago, and I think social media helped cause this quicker WOM than we've seen in years past.

Lol, where did you come up with that? Although after the midnight spin Sony pulled I wouldn't be surprised if they did try and spin something ridiuclous like that to make the 4th drop seem less disastrous.
