Assassin's Creed | 12/21/2016 | Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard | Final Trailer on Page 71

Recommended Posts

2005 had xmas on a Sunday.  2 releases on Dec 21st that year, Dick & Jane and Cheaper by Dozen.

Dick & Jane 5-day openings: 21.959

Dom total: 110.3

Multiplier: 5.02

Cheaper Dozen, not a good comparison but...

5-day opening: 14.59

Dom total: 82.57

Multiplier: 5.66

I think Assassin's Creed should be at least hitting $15m for its first 5 days.  Alvin and Sisters both did $14m 3-day openings right underneath TFA and this will open 5 days after a much smaller Star Wars (caveat, it'll be alongside a bigger Passengers).  But would matching Dick and Jane's opening be that crazy?  I don't think so.  Different type of movie, likely shorter legs, but around $80-120m domestic seems pretty safe IMO.

I know this is a big range but here's my guess:

5-day: $20-30m

Dom: $90-150m

OS: $150-300m

Dear Fox, WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!

The film looks gorgeous and I'm still hyped but this trailer, although well cut, is honestly horrible. Not a question of skill (although fuck these title cards), no...but the approach of just "let's re cut the first trailer with more extended footage and even worse pop/rock track" is :S. Are they just trying to do exactly the same as for the games? At least yay for not revealing anything more plot wise, although none of the traikers have touched on anything more than "Fassbender in the Spanish Inquisition" - where is the Assassins/Templar conflict at least?

  Hide contents

I understand if they didn't want to go in deeper with stuff about Cal's father (Gleeson) and the Piece of Eden etc like the version shown at KinoExpo Russia did but I honestly would have preferred that maybe?

The E3 featurette is by far still the best marketing piece released - no Kanye/trash rock/pop, teases the story elements and the action appropriately.

Pretty much this. Screw Fox / Ubisoft (not a fan of their AC trailers recently either) for making a trailer that makes me want to see the movie less than before. That's not how to get video game adaptations out of the shitter. Maybe the movie sucks, too, if all they came up with is this trailer. Let's hope it's just their stupid pandering to teenagers...

I hinted this a while ago in the Uncharted thread and I will say this now..there is not much in terms of spectacle or amazing visuals..whatever is in the trailer is what you will get...there is a lot of talky mumbo jumbo shit with adequate acting..but that's all. The studio has no faith in it. This will do Ergaon numbers at best worldwide. The other Fox movie "Why Him?" is going to be a bigger hit.

Aren't you the one who's always hating on Fox?

Looks like the "Video Game" curse is still alive and well. Wow what a massively disappointing trailer. looks like PoP 2.0 only worse. at least that starred Jake Gyllenhaal and had an element of fun to it.

I wonder if this will even hit $50m now. massive bomb and massive critical failure here we come.

A decent trailer in my view and I'm (still) interested but in parts I'm also a little bit disappointed, e.g. that the modern thread could prevail. And it's true that there are a little bit too many jumps in the action scenes and therefor not enough of an emotional thrilling story so far. Plus the music is indeed terrible.
But overall, it did not look bad to me and M. Cotillard and M. Fassbender are very good actors so there's hope. And remember that the Warcraft trailer was also mediocre at best.

I unabashedly enjoyed Prince of Persia and Warcraft and I expect the same from this one.

I recently watched Warcraft and  have to say all the orcs/ogre stuff was very well done but the humans were all awful. It pissed me off because there was real potential there.

That and the fact that it was a prequel to a more interesting movie that probably won't happen.

Yup, the music choice still sucks. It's strange that they've made the modern thread of the games — the part of it people hated the most — into the main part of the story.

Bombs away, and I hate saying that because Fassbender deserves a headline hit.

Uh, the modern part of the story is the main part in the games as well. Without the modern part there's absolutely no story for the series, they would have nothing to adapt.

Still better DOM than Warcraft @shayhiri

At least there's that.

I don't expect great things from this movie, but their predictions also seem really low on Sing. I think it should at least do better than 13 mil OW.

AC has problem called Rogue One. It's basically suicide to open a movie against Star Wars.  And if Passangers is any good that will also take from overall gross at the box office.  56M isnt  terrible. But for getting anything more than that this movie needs to have good word of mouth and critic response.
