I think with this cast and this trailer this will end up breaking the genre's curse, but that trailer is typical FOX quality, at least of late. Using an ultra modern song that doesn't fit at all is their marketing department's MO now I guess. 

 

I'm still irked by the lack of an 80s tune for the Apocalypse trailer. Do these movie studios realize that the rise of hipsterism among young people means a lot of them probably listen to older music?

As someone who's never played the games, this trailer does not make me excited for it.

It was fine until Kanyes music kicks in. But even that didn't bother me as much as the bland action. It just seems uninteresting. Nothing grabbed me about any it except maybe the fall from the tower (which has been done to death in the Underworld series).

Don't crucify me. That might be what the game is, I don't know.

I have faith in Fassbender to make any project good so I'm sure the actual movie will be decent. This didn't make me want to see it though.

Wow so that just improved that trailer like 50x and made me interested to see it. So maybe it was just the music for why things felt so bland.
 

The music of the game actually goes with the visuals. It feels a lot more epic. Kudos to whoever made that.

I'm super branched out musically. I provide music to some huge music producers/DJs who tour the world. 
 

Saying that, I still think this video (and that album) is one of the most brilliant things anyone in hip hop has done in the past few years. Every song on this video is good and Lost In The World w/ Bon Iver is so fucking strong. Runaway is still catchy to this day.
 

When it comes to Life Of Pablo though, I really only liked a few. Mainly FML.
 

Kanyes collaboration a few years ago with NASA (Gifted) was great too.

People just started recognizing Taylor Swift's music. Kanye has been pumping out hits behind the scenes and under his own albums for years now. Hell, I still don't know the ambient sound of a single Taylor Swift song yet.

Taylor can't sing and generally sucks but at least she's written a few good songs without the help of co-writers. 

 

Kanye is a better artist than Taylor Swift, and it's not even close. She is a great song writer though, but Kanye wrote most of his raps.

I would say Kanye West is still way more creative then Taylor Swift. Shake It Off is really catchy but it wasn't written by just her. A lot of the songs on 1989 are manufactured radio sounds churned out from the commercial pop machine. It's just fluff and that's why a lot of Top 40 music doesn't stick around for long these days.

If it makes you feel better, all the Apocalypse adverts here feature Come and Get Your Love. Totes not ripping off any other recent superhero movies.
