September 3-6:Creepily, Slender Man slips into the top spot, with Time Lapse quite a bit behind. The holdovers are strong in general, except for Giant Spiders 2, which still manages to lose a lot of business despite opening a weekend before Labor Day Weekend.1. Slender Man: 28,366,191/33,164,203 (1st week)2. Time Lapse: 20,656,319/24,158,424 (1st week)3. Giant Spiders 2: 18,978,190/21,259,332 (2nd week)4. Plastic-Man: 12,597,554/15,149,438 (3rd week)5. Against All Odds: 8,903,744/11,358,509 (2nd week)6. Shark Mutiny: 7,691,560/9,768,324 (5th week)7. Shiverin’ Gulch: 4,814,173/6,115,909(5th week)8. House of the Scorpion: 3,264,732/4,098,331 (4th week)9. Starcraft 2: 2,421,811/3,145,213 (8th week)10. Harlington House: 2,335,947/3,024,431(5th week)September 10-12:Are you ready to WATCH VAGUE GENRE MOVIE? Apparently not, as Maddox’s Vague Genre-- I mean some guy’s Action Movie, puts up numbers not even close to the standard set (and rarely/never) met by the Scary Movie series. Adele gets some business from her core audience but cannot break out enough for better than 4th in the Box Office. For Starcraft fans, it was a losing battle for 10th place. Starcraft had a better hold than Scorpions, but not quite enough to stay in the Top 10.1. Action Movie: 23,848,523 (1st week)2. Time Lapse: 12,154,178(2nd week)3. Slender Man: 11,709,564 (2nd week)4. Adele: Rolling in the Deep: 9,064,238 (1st week)5. Giant Spiders 2: 7,118,719 (3rd week)6. Plastic-Man: 6,609,936 (4th week)7. Against All Odds: 4,930,003 (3rd week)8. Shark Mutiny: 4,452,644 (6th week)9. Shiverin’ Gulch: 2,502,407(6th week)10. House of the Scorpion: 1,389,470 (5th week)September 17-19:Summer is surely over now… without a single film breaking 20 million. Both Penny Press and The Fall do in the high end of expectations, and Penny Press manages to beat out the weekend despite being behind a bit based on Nikki Finke’s Friday Morning Guesses. Spiders manages to have a decent hold by its standards, below 60% of a drop, but still falls behind Plastic-Man in the process. Khanh doesn’t quite hit the Top 10 in its first release.1. Penny Press: 17,523,782 (1st week)2. The Fall: 16,636,521 (1st week)3. Action Movie: 12,465,623 (2nd week)4. Time Lapse: 7,031,192 (3rd week)5. Slender Man: 5,078,439 (3rd week)6. Adele: Rolling in the Deep: 4,339,051 (2nd week)7. Plastic-Man: 3,665,210 (5th week)8. Giant Spiders 2: 2,958,404 (4th week)9. Against All Odds: 2,771,155 (4th week)10. Shark Mutiny: 2,429,808 (7th week)--Khanh Bernarda Alba: 2,201,688 (1st week - Limited)September 24-26:While just two new movies came out, three movies dropped off the Top 10, with Khanh going up to 7th. It was good thing for Giant Spiders watchers not to see the embarrassment as their film dropped below Against All Odds this weekend! Past Tense and Some Assembly Required both did good business, with good word of mouth helping Past Tense beat most of the expectations set for it. 1. Past Tense: 24,606,339 (1st week)2. Some Assembly Required: 18,721,564 (1st week)3. Penny Press: 9,879,908 (2nd week)4. The Fall: 8,286,651 (2nd week)5. Action Movie: 6,765,094 (3rd week)6. Time Lapse: 3,836,218 (4th week)7. Khanh Bernarda Alba: 2,781,268 (2nd week - Wider)8. Slender Man: 2,381,279 (4th week)9. Plastic-Man: 2,000,838 (6th week)10. Adele: Rolling in the Deep: 1,995,096 (3rd week)

Oct 1-3:Ben Stiller is back in form with this goofy comedy, as Monster Mash puts out the first 40 million opener since Giant Spiders… and the first 40 million opener that was screened for critics since Plastic-Man. Halloweentown II does similar business to the first Halloweentown, and Past Tense has a soft drop due to great word of mouth.1. Monster Mash: 40,742,481 (1st week)2. Halloweentown II: 28,897,349 (1st week)3. Past Tense: 14,645,693 (2nd week)4. Some Assembly Required: 10,100,591 (2nd week)5. Penny Press: 5,752,083 (3rd week)6. The Fall: 4,355,464 (3rd week)7. Khanh Bernarda Alba: 3,781,903 (3rd week - Widest)8. Action Movie: 3,226,273 (4th week)9. Time Lapse: 2,170,149 (5th week)10. Slender Man: 1,091,102 (5th week)Oct 8-10:The Fault in Our Stars couldn’t quite topple Monster Mash, and Our Beloved Savior couldn’t Sacha Baron Cohen its way past Halloweentown II, as the holdovers win the weekend. 1. Monster Mash: 23,667,307 (2nd week)2. The Fault in Our Stars: 23,452,683 (1st week)3. Halloweentown II: 17,919,246 (2nd week)4. Our Beloved Savior: 17,236,198 (1st week)5. Past Tense: 8,473,998 (3rd week)6. Some Assembly Required: 5,718,929 (3rd week)7. Penny Press: 3,280,413 (4th week)8. The Fall: 2,352,822 (4th week)9. Khanh Bernarda Alba: 2,204,553 (4th week)10. Action Movie: 1,581,197 (5th week)Oct 15-17:The cars zoom past everyone, as Cruisers - Second Gear more than doubles Monster Mash’s solid hold. Without anything else opening against it, it was pretty obvious that Crusiers would win this weekend quite easily.1. Cruisers - Second Gear: 29,097,424 (1st week)2. Monster Mash: 14,245,352 (3rd week)3. The Fault in Our Stars: 11,777,937 (2nd week)4. Halloweentown II: 11,185,193 (3rd week)5. Our Beloved Savior: 8,419,883 (2nd week)6. Past Tense: 5,094,568 (4th week)7. Some Assembly Required: 3,401,047 (4th week)8. Penny Press: 1,963,327 (5th week)9. Khanh Bernarda Alba: 1,426,221 (4th week)10. The Fall: 1,179,469 (5th week)Oct 22-24:Fright Town scared enough money out of people… basically matching Cruisers opening weekend from a week ago. Empty Hearth puts up big numbers in its limited LA/NY release as people look forward to Oscar season.1. Fright Town 2: 29,237,109 (1st week)2. Cruisers - Second Gear: 14,900,791 (2nd week)3. Monster Mash: 7,971,699 (4th week)4. Halloweentown II: 6,756,975 (4th week)5. The Fault in Our Stars: 6,278,818 (3rd week)6. Our Beloved Savior: 4,390,127 (3rd week)7. Past Tense: 3,243,202 (5th week)8. Some Assembly Required: 1,918,871 (5th week)9. Penny Press: 1,180,745 (6th week)10. Khanh Bernarda Alba: 898,221 (5th week)--Empty Hearth: 422,259 (1st week -2 THEATERS!)Oct 29-31:Now… that is more like it. Vast Dark 4 hits Number 1 without any question about it. Of course, don’t be surprised to see it topple down quickly, as Halloween night is a big night for these kind of movies. Both Monster Mash and Halloweentown II benefited from Vast Dark, as people who couldn’t sneak into Vast Dark 4 ended up seeing more comedy and less horror with one of those two films. Empty Hearth breaks a 30k PTA to hit the top 10 in its second weekend.1. Vast Dark 4: 40,496,661 (1st week)2. Dogs of Babel 27,715,334 (1st week)3. Fright Town 2: 15,922,530 (2nd week)4. Our Beloved Savior: 2,083,994 (4th week)9. Past Tense: 1,883,003 (6th week)10. Empty Hearth: 1,767,029 (2nd week -58 Theaters)
