iceroll
I guess no matter how appealing the movies look, there's just a cap on how much box office success there can be had in September.
MrPink
Thought Prisoners would do better. Theater I was in was about 70% full last night, pretty good. Hugh Jackman was fantastic and Jake Gyllenhaal's excessive blinking was oddly fascinating. Edited September 28, 2013 by MrPink

John Marston
45% drop for Prisoners. Not amazing though not terrible. The Town held much better Edited September 28, 2013 by Robert Stack
CJohn
Cloudy only 9.3M. I am very disappointed.
MrPink
LOL, so I'm not alone in noticing that. No wonder he scared Paul Dano. He was all up in his face, blinking the poor guy to death.
rainbowtrout
Wow, Don Jon got a "C" Cinemascore. This could be gone from theaters in a few weeks.

CaptainJackSparrow
Woah how come Cloudy 2 has a smaller budget than the first?? Edited September 28, 2013 by Gingy
Jake Gittes
If Cloudy 2 follows Hotel Transylvania's weekend and overall multipilier, it's gonna do 36/125.
Jack Nevada
Cabbage Claim will do what, 10M? Despite the A- CS it wont have legs because these movies aimed at black people never have much for legs.
Blankments
Cloudy 2's small opening makes me really sad. It's actually a really fun animated movie, the best of the year so far beside Monsters U. For fun, I calculated the opening/legs using other September family openers. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: 34.6/142.7M Hotel Transylvania: 36.0M/125.7M Open Season: 35.4/127.4M The Game Plan: 33.6/133.0M Looks like 40M OW is out of the question Also, I'm ticked off Prisoners dropped so much, just because I was certain it'd finish in second
Fancyarcher
there's a space between 10m and 35m, you know, right? It's still okay. But the first Cloudy wasn't a big hit to begin with. Also cinemascores are basically useless as far as I'm concerned. Jack Nevada
I liked Hotel Transylvania despite how kinda obnoxious and hyper it is, but all the stuff I've seen from Cloudy 2 just looks dead annoying.
Gopher
I think the fact that Don Jon got a wide release is the victory. It's performing similarly to 50/50 from two years ago which also had less than enormous appeal (comedy about cancer, comedy about sex addiction) to the masses. forg
Well this reminds me of Kung Fu Panda 2 where a lot expected it to increase with the sequel (yours truly included) but disappointed. But it's not catastrophic level for Cloudy 2 ala Happy Feet 2 so this number is fine and we have to see Sat estimates first. Yeah it won't likely break HT's September record but it is still a good opening

CaptainJackSparrow
Well Kung Fu Panda 2 sucked (IMO), and was terribly marketed. And when comparing its first five day opening to its total run, legs were not that good either.
