With 16m plus, it would need something like

16.5 + 13.5(-18.2%) + 10(-28.6%) to get to 40m

300 was 28.1 + 24.68(-12.2%) + 18.09(-26.7%)

I figure it needs about 14m Friday, not counting previews, to hit 40m.

Yeah. If the previews are 3.3 milion, it probably needs a total of 17 to get there. 16 looks like it'd drop to about 13 on Saturday and then a bit under 10 on Sunday, to end up in the high 30s.

To keep up with the weekly pun, it ought to say, 'TONIGHT,  SHAWNMR DINES IN HELL' Next week will be 'ShawnMR's numbers better be right, bitch.'

Well, that's certainly a better #, but still won't hit 40 with 16.  Can't see it doing 2.5x ... probably closer to 36 or 37 (similar to Pacific Rim which had nearly the same preview #)

I seem to remember the news at the time sounded much the same for Pac Rim: It's doing amazing business! It's going to be huge! Oh, wait, nope, it's just pretty good.

Meanwhile, the far less hyped family film the same weekend is going to surprise everyone, I guess?

Better than earlier estimate. I fully think it's going  to keep going up and end around 19-20M for Friday.
