SpiderByte
I don't think "2023 wasn't a great year for Disney at the box office" and "Disney is not in long term jeopardy at the box office" are contradictory
Spidey Freak
HOLY SHIT, the latest episode of X-Men 97 was fire. If the MCU's version of the mutants will be anywhere as good as it's on this show, then Marvel's back firing on all cylinders. Potiki
DTC is profitable and Disney+ US and Canada subs are way up to 54m, Hulu also topped 50m subs. Disney+ lost some core subs internationally due to price hikes though so not all rainbows. The unit that houses theatrical (Content Sales and Licensing) lost money somehow which is almost impressive considering there was no major releases and Disney sold more movies and shows to third parties in the first part of the year. Linear networks continue to collapse although ESPN (which I didn't include in the screenshots) is a bright spot managing to increase revenue albeit only slightly. Revenue just a bit under expectations, lack of theatrical numbers and linear networks saw a 22% drop in operating income. Time to sell these to private equity. No big announcement as of yet, everyone thought Disney moving their earning to premarket/am meant a big something was going to happen (and it still could happen as the earnings call doesn't start for another 20 minutes.)
Potiki
ESPN tile on Disney+ by years end. Similar to the Hulu tile works. edit: 17 of the top 20 titles watched on streaming came from linear networks (Shogun for example) Also no big announcement from Bob Iger, likely will disappoint the market. thajdikt
Eh based on what I’m reading that quote isn’t Feige but Shawn Levy who’s saying that. Feige and his co president acknowledges the problems tho.
SpiderByte
The Hulu integration must be going amazingly if they're already going to add ESPN too. My guess is the future "Disney Bundle" is gonna be a combined Disney+ and whatever that joint sports streamer winds up being called
