Weekend Numbers (IDEN $1.91m/ GOTG: $10.16m; #s pg 1 & 10)

Besides GotG, the Top 10 grossing films of the summer were all based on preexisting material--yes folks, sequels, reboots & franchises rule.— Exhibitor Relations (@ERCboxoffice) September 5, 2014

Well if you take the top 20 domestic, only 3 are original (Ride Along, Neighbors, Lucy), all 3 sucked.

Oy, the dead of box office season is upon us.

It's sad the only thing I care about is GOTG passing the $300 million mark. Happy it'll get there. But sweet Jesus, it's not fun tracking movies now. I can't wait for Maze Runner.  Actually, I'm hoping Dolphin Tale 2 breaks out to $20 million or more. I did like the first one, and I might wait to see what others say if it'd be worth taking my son to.

I am late to the party but I went to see Guardians here in the UK last night (still sold out) and I loved it.Loved it. Best movie of the summer, maybe year.About 10-15 people walked out during it (!?). Did this happen in anyone else's showings?

I don't really remember because I was too busy enjoying the movie. I don't think so though.

If they did, wack people.

Did anything get released this weekend?

The Identical.

4% ratings (2 fresh, 51 rotten)

1956 theaters counts

Zero promotion

In other words, a serious contender to the implosion curse...after Sin City2

No but I've met a few people who thought it was terrible. I put that down to the fact this is having such good WOM which is bringing people who would usually skip these sort of film to see it and half way through realising it's just not for them.

Umm, Gurdians of the Galaxy is based on pre-existing material as well. The comics.  Besides, is this news? Let's look at ten years ago, the summer of 2004:1 Shrek 22 Spider-Man 23 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban4 The Day after Tomorrow5 The Bourne Supremacy6 I, Robot7 Troy8 Van Helsing9 Fahrenheit 9/1110 Dodgeball

Three movies not based on pre-existing material, one of them a documentary.
