People say this year has been great for quality but compared to last year and 2012 no one really talked about the films of this year in my general social circles.

 

There are people my age who don't even know what mega hit films like GOTG are forget about the likes of Interstellar and such.

 

 

Quite different from 2012 when TA, THG, TDKR and Skyfall were such a rage.

 

Even 2013 had IM3 CF be mega sequel hits and Frozen become the film sensation of the year.  

 

 

Everyone I knows about the new SW7 and TA2 movie coming out next year but little talk about the films of this year.

I don't think this is true. At least That's not how I remember it, just up until the end of summer; Alice in wonderland, fast five, karate kid, toy story 3, eclipse, despicable me, inception, grown-ups. Definitely never considered these to be underperformers.

 

Again, with a few exceptions (Alice came out prior to this though), TONS of films underperformed in 2010/11. Just take a look at winter 2011 and how pathetic it was. Business didn't pick up again until 2012. It's a huge contrast from the years before it and 2012/13.

GOTG is the only film from this year that I've heard talked about at all.

My bad. Yes, the Lego Movie was talked about. Cap 2, about as much as the other Marvel films, but nothing special. Still way more than I heard anyone talk about TASM2.

It's been a good year for non-blockbuster movies. Look to the art-houses!

Actually, I think it's been a pretty damn good year for both. While not every blockbuster has been a home run, there have been plenty of solid base hits. Which is way better than what we get most of the time.
