The last 15 minutes are the best part. Turns a cerebral scifi film into an emotional experience. Brilliant stuff. 

 

I feel like such a cynical takeaway could only occur in 2016.

Ha. I thought Arrival, Green Room, Zootopia and Eye in the Sky were fantastic.

 

But The Witch is one of the worst of the year, easily most overhyped too, IMO.

But this film, Arrival was fantastic.

 

Amy Adams was terrific and it was so well made. 

 

I didn't see the revelation coming and it was so well done. I absolutely love being surprised, very impressed how it was pulled off.

When was the last time a "smart" and "profound" science fiction movie got this much praise? Snowpiercer? Gets me worried, because I don't really rate Snowpiercer.

decent movie. I don't think it's philosophically/morally complex but it had my brain working hard, so kept me engaged. very watchable but I'll probably have forgotten it by the end of the week.

Is it? What's the precedent for opening around 2,000 theatres and expanding up to 3,000?

My friend who has could give two shits about sci-fi was...well she loved this movie.  She said she could've watched hours of the Adams/Alien interaction.

 

I haven't seen but that is cool.
