I loved the majority of the film with the exception of probably the last 15 minutes where it heavily faltered for me. Definitely a slow burn of a film that not everyone is going to like so I do understand why it got that B cinemascore.

If you want to be given something to think about then go see this because you be left in a stupor of thoughts leaving the cinema.

The last 15 minutes are the best part. Turns a cerebral scifi film into an emotional experience. Brilliant stuff.

I feel like such a cynical takeaway could only occur in 2016.

Little, modest, cheap movie. Which would be OK if it wasn't so ridiculously overrated.

Fortunately the Shay knows well the critics - and this boring director that makes even Nolan seem interesting, so I didn't expect anything more.

Cheap.

I would say:

1. The Witch

2. Arrival

3. Train to Busan

4. Zootopia

5. Eye in the Sky

Honorable mention: Green Room

Ha. I thought Arrival, Green Room, Zootopia and Eye in the Sky were fantastic.

But The Witch is one of the worst of the year, easily most overhyped too, IMO.

Honorable mention: Everybody Wants Some!!

Thought The Witch was good but overrated.

When was the last time a "smart" and "profound" science fiction movie got this much praise? Snowpiercer? Gets me worried, because I don't really rate Snowpiercer.

My friend who has could give two shits about sci-fi was...well she loved this movie.  She said she could've watched hours of the Adams/Alien interaction.

I haven't seen but that is cool.

Gravity got really good review (shut up, it's sci-fi)

Space drama/thriller is not only a real commercial drama, but respected.  Cuaron, you started something.  You really did.  And it can star chicks.  Bullock, you the queen.

Annihilation is coming next year to keep this going.
