nope, I think most people don't have it in top 15.

I was wrong. 6 users don't have it in their top 15 including myself. 42 others did (though I probably missed a few).

Southpaw would have been better suited to a month like October or September. Instead Weinstein is basically dumping it, by releasing it during the summer.

His schedule for late in the year is usually reserved for movies he thinks are award worthy.  Southpaw isn't. This is probably the best spot for it.  If they wanted to dump it they'd hand it off to Radius but they've allocated a lot of money for advertising and are opening it wide.

Paper Towns took in $2 million, while Pixels grossed $1.5 million. The weekend's third new offering, Antoine Fuqua's gritty boxing drama Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, wasn't far behind with a pleasing $1.2 million.

Southpaw could actually win the weekend. Pretty dam good numbers.

I know, 1.2M is really good for a movie whose core audience will show up throughout the weekend since it doesn't have a rush factor.

Yes, but even then it always seemed odd to release a boxing drama during the summer.

Southpaw actually did pretty well. Could do about $5M today and close to mid-teens for the weekend. I think Jake is becoming something of a minor draw after his recent string of quality performances and film choices (and even the consensus on this movie is that he's terrific again, it's the rest of the movie that leaves something to be desired).

Creed which has much more buzz is coming out in the fall and they probably wanted some separation

Yeah, but I still think it could have done ever better in a non summer month like say April. Oh well!

Everyone got fooled by Tomorrowland, Ted 2, Magic Mike, Terminator Genisys and Pixels.

Weirdly enough, Tomorrowland and Genisys may actually make it into the top 15 at the end of the summer despite underperforming horribly.

There is no way a movie with zero rush factor will only do 5m after 1.2m in previews. That's a terrible IM. It's heading for a 20m+ weekend.

I didn't get fooled by TOMORROWLAND. That might be the only feather in my cap this summer, but dammit, I'm gonna treasure it.

I missed it and Pixels and I missed Spy and Mad Max. My top 15 is awful

Edit: And I missed Paper Towns.
