Strong box office rebound this wknd after pitiful #LaborDay. 1st time 2 films opened to $25M+ on same wknd in weak month of SEP.

Could easily happen next weekend and even the weekend after, too. Maze Runner seems like a lock and Black Mass has the combo of exceptional marketing/starry cast/strong reviews and buzz/derth of adult dramas that I see it hitting close to 30 million. The weekend after, HT2 looks locked, and Everest easily could do it if it doesn't blow off too much juice in IMAX next weekend. Awesome September, generally, even with a crappy start.

I realized there are already 23 movies over 1B WW. At this point what is da bomb is making 1B OS or 1.5B WW. 1B WW every big 3D blockbuster can do nowadays :lol:

Two films have spent 7 WEEKS in the top 5 so far this year: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION and FURIOUS 7. (it's actually three, including AMERICAN SNIPER)

 

One film spent EIGHT WEEKS: AMERICAN SNIPER.
