That's pretty awesome. All three movies are diverse genres too. MCU could have a mega hit with Black Panther. The leading black superhero is long overdue.

Furious 7's OS performance may be the most shocking of the year. The 6th one did pretty well OS and then the seventh comes closer to the Camerons than we thought possible for any sequel.

Separate the china number from the rest of the OS grosses and you ll see the movie didn't over perform that much.

But it did over-perform in virtually every country. Not the way it over-performed in China of course, but even taking out China the OS gross would've been seen as very surprising. Take China out of both F6 and F7, and it increased nearly 300m over F6. That's not a "normal" China-less OS sequel jump by any means. It simply way over-performed in 95% of its markets, DOM included.

Yes it does inflate perception a bit, since technically JW would be the bigger OS hit if F7 had done JW numbers in China. However, F7 would still have come close to 1b OS in such a case, so crazy achievement either way.

Black Mass has been building steam critically and with promotions over the past week. There hasn't been an adult thriller for quite some time as well, so the market and audience is there.
