It’s really damn good. It doesn’t quite hit GOAT status like La La Land, but it’s still well worth watching. Ryan Gosling is fantastic and Claire Foy’s very good, but Chazelle is the star here.

The flights really accentuate the isolation Neil goes through, and when bad stuff goes down, it’s brutal and intense. There’s even some really good POV shots mixed in as well. And like with all Chazelle joints, the ending is the highlight. It’s beautiful in terms of scope, effects, and emotion.

Definitely see this in the theater too.

More like

First Boring Man

This felt like running errands or chores.

So loooooong .... the 3 hours were definitely too much.

Jizelle, bring back the ternary feel man, bring back the swing, bring back the jazz.

I mean, even Gravity got so much more money, love and attention - and it wasn't Sci-Fi (though some trolls tried to argue)...

While this is undeniably Sci-Fi, very interesting and underdeveloped Alternative History fiction premise ("What if people were actually able to go to the Moon!!") - and still, no one is interested, as if it's some boring propaganda movie... :(

The film was a bit of a disappointment. The space sequences are amazingly shot and convey the fragility and isolation astronauts must have felt like no other space movie, imho - the Gemini 8 sequence is fantastic -, but the earth-bound sequences are such a bore of manufactured drama. And they did have some good dramatic material to work with - we're talking about a guy that saw a bunch of his buddies die throughout the years while chasing a dream of dubious feasibility. But all the movie does is showing us closeups of Ryan Gosling acting like an inexpressive asshole.

A pity. They could have released the film for the 50th anniversary and give a couple passes to the script.
