I feel like Howard has had this "Oscar guy" perception attached to him for years, which is ironic since he really hasn't received that much recognition from them (only 2 BD noms and 3 BP noms I believe). Rush was a fantastic film and still couldn't make an awards season dent, so it truly is mind boggling how they thought Sea would. I'm guessing the top executives saw the movie (it's been in the can for more than a year), knew the subpar reviews were coming, and decided to delay the inevitable for 9 months (really, this thing would've bombed no matter where it opened) to give it the chance to build at least some buzz as an Oscar contender (which never occurred, of course) before everything would pretty much doom it. They should've just released it in March because I can't imagine what executive thought that people would want to see...this...over the holidays anymore than they would've wanted to in the spring. One thing is for sure: between a number of costly bombs (Jupiter Ascending, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Pan, In the Heart of the Sea) and a bunch of titles that weren't big gambles but were still money losers anyway (Run All Night, Hot Pursuit, Entourage, Our Brand Is Crisis, etc.), not to mention a critically-adored hit that still lost money because it cost so much (Mad Max: Fury Road), a lot of people who work at WB are about to be out of a job in the beginning of the new year. 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Three heroes returning one more time, when no one expected it ever to happen. Star Wars: Episode VII I never dreamed it would happen in my life. Even with a year of trailers and two more years of hype. And, yet, next week at this time, I'll have already written my review for it. At one point it seemed like George Lucas was resentful towards the prequel haters and was going to retire SW forever. Take Star Wars to the grave. Then one, fateful day, Lucas sold the rights to Disney. People weren't sure what to think. As we followed every development we tried to stay optimistic. It was all we could do. Then the trailers were released and the nostalgia was pure bliss. We then watched ticket sales "break the internet". It's been a wild ride. Now we're less than a week away. Feels good. After how intense the backlash against the second season was (to the point that even Andy Samberg declared the show dead while hosting the Emmys) there has hardly been any discussion about it from either HBO or the creator.
