I doubt the Christmas films will put a dent into Star Wars but the January films will be much more competitive: The Hateful Eight, The Revenant,  Ride Along 2, and Kung Fu Panda 3 to name a few.  This is why Avatar-like holds are unrealistic. Avatar only had to contend with a Denzel Washington film and some horror flicks. It only really started losing steam towards the end of February/ early March.

But it doesn't need AVATAR holds to hit a billion. It just needs to hold reasonably well for a big Christmas release. FOTR, TTT, KING KONG, that sort of thing.

Another random record for TFA. Obliterates the weekend gap record.

Moneywise = yes, but not percentage-wise.

But I see your example as a true win, the titles of the percentage difference were not released time-near enough IMHO to really make sense (4 weeks difference)

I know I'm thinking way ahead here, but is the third weekend record in play? That's something Avatar has had to its name for quite awhile...

Yes. Christmas weekend should actually have a harsher drop % wise than New Years weekend, because of previews. Look for an <40% drop 3rd weekend. It may even obliterate the 3rd weekend record.

percentage wise, outside of the first week of may, it is insane, best ever actually.

We did this after JW and I remember the highest anyone went on TFA was "maybe"

BvS - $156M no

CW - $155M no

Rogue One - $168M no

Episode 8 - $200+ (maybe but a stretch)

Avatar 2 - $116M no

GOTG 2 - $135M no

Infinity War 1 - $150M nope

Infinity War 2 - $148M nope

JW2 - $172M nah

Dont see it happening in the foreseeable future

Infinity War 2 won't hit 248 m but 148 m is too low.
