WrathOfHan
New predictions: 1. Natalie Portman, Jackie 2. Emma Stone, La La Land 3. Amy Adams, Arrival 4. Isabelle Huppert, Elle 5. Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins
filmlover
I think Annette Bening is getting in before Streep (whose film was a summer release that didn't make much and won't be in contention for anything else).
filmlover
Current predictions with Viola moving to Supporting: Amy Adams, Arrival Annette Bening, 20th Century Women Isabelle Huppert, Elle Natalie Portman, Jackie Emma Stone, La La Land
filmlover
I think Stone is winning at this point tbh. Portman is still a very recent winner and La La Land is so far out in front in the Best Picture race at this point (really, Silence is the only thing that could stop it). Jake Gittes
After the full trailer I'm inclined to go back to Stone as the winner too. It looks like a performance that'll go straight for everybody's hearts. Portman has A LOT going for her and I certainly wouldn't be surprised if she took it, but she's in a chillier movie and a previous winner. Either way it should be the strongest competition in this category in years. Maybe even stronger than Meryl vs Viola in 2011.

Unless of course Bening could develop a sympathy narrative that she might lose to another much younger actress. Again.
stripe
The competition this year will be fierce. And always have to consider this is the year with "diversity" word in every Academy voter. Locked 1. Emma Stone 2. Natalie Portman Strong chances 3. Annette Bening 4. Amy Adams Fighting for place 5. Ruth Negga Isabelle Huppert Meryl Streep Jessica Chastain Taraji P Henson
filmlover
So packed is this category that it's a shame that early year contenders that would be very worthy like Kate Beckinsale in Love & Friendship and Sally Field in Hello, My Name is Doris stand zero chance. I still haven't seen Eye in the Sky but I wonder if Helen Mirren could sneak up on everyone. She did get two SAG noms last year out of nowhere, one of them for a movie that came out in the spring. It's possible.

filmlover
Amy Adams has to get a nom for Arrival. It honestly might be her best performance to date, which until now I thought was her snubbed work in Enchanted.

filmlover
Annette won't be laughing when she loses to a much younger actress who has previously won. Again. Edited November 20, 2016 by filmlover
The Panda
I think Portman probably has this one. Wouldn't say locked until critic awards and sag, but I'd be surprised if she loses. I think they'll go for diversity winners in other cats though.

Jake Gittes
Whoa they got Huppert there. I'm sure I'm still gonna cringe through all of it though cause Galloway won't be able to keep himself from interrupting them every 30 seconds.
